Me too. I'm living in a bunch. The big Oakland fire was so big because of

the Eucalyptus explosions. I am thinking of distilling them. Does anyone

know whether the kind in the Oakland hills are therapeutic?

I will have to find out the name of the Eucalyptus up here.

A lot of hobby stores use them in floral arrangements, such as Michaels,

Hobby Lobby, etc. They are sprayed with something, but they still have

their smell. But I wouldn't use them in any type of product!!

Hey Jan

You got LOTS? Would you be willing to send me some? I live in S. San Jose

and would be willing to pay postage and whatever you think would be fair

for " hunting and gathering " . I want to " spearamint " with them in a Woobey

or two and see how they would work for folk with headcolds and sinus

probbies.

Dear Ivy,

I am curious as to why you don't think the leaves would not be good. I

rediscovered the name of the eucalyptus up here. It is Blue Gum. I found it in

listed in Sylla Sheppard-Hanger's Reference Manual. It has many uses and

safety cautions. There is no list there of it being in this country, however.

My source of its identity is pretty reliable.

Anyway, I'm collecting some for trial.

Ivy who used to live in Oakland hills here ... Not to discourage

than the leaves. For natural pet care, they are strung together as a flea

discourager.

The leaves are rather large (3-5 inches), very flat and, of course, brittle

when dry. Somewhat brittle when fresh too.

Thank you for your information. I called the Botanical Garden of UC

Berkeley. They did not mention 5 kinds but just said it was Blue gum with the

official name: eucalyptus globulus. Maybe I asked the wrong question. Both

Bill

McClung of the Claremont Conservancy and Tom Klatt of UC Berkleley said it

is Blue Gum up here. I will pursue this further since I would like to be

sure of the variety which I intend to distill. It is true that the location

also depends on the nature of the oils from the plants too. But I would like to

know for sure the variety of eucalyptus I am distilling.

There are at least 5 kinds of eucs in the Oakland hills. You might ask the

rangers at Tilden Park for help in identifying them.
