Guest guest
Hey Butch, I enjoyed reading about your wild night out and commend you for listening to the needs of your changing body. 'Tis true, " if you don't use it, you lose it " ! Like you, I sit at this PC 12+ hours a day. My good friend is a rep for Gaia Herbs and I recently helped her out doing inventory at a couple of health food stores. Squatting and stooping and reaching for almost 8 hours. OH MY. The next day I could hardly move! It was a major wake up call to this once very active woman. Enjoy your retirement and that SS check! It's the " American Dream " that many of us will never experience. All the best, Michelle Butch wrote: by the end of 2005 I will most likely fold. I'm tired of the business ..tired of working 12-14 hours a day .. and I am now eligible to draw Social Security .. which will be right about the same amount I draw out of the business now. All I do now is sell one HELL OF A LOT OF PRODUCTS at an extremely ridiculous low profit margin and manage to keep three people employed in Maryland. I'm not Catholic so the Pope is not about to consider me for Sainthood .. best I go fishing. ;-)
Guest guest
Hey Kelly, Jan .. other good folks .. > Oh nooooooooooo, Butch, you can't retire! :-O At least not without someone > comparable to fill your shoes and me thinks that's not possible! :-( Lots of good folks out there .. lots of bad ones too but there is no shortage of good ones. Nobody is irreplaceable .. even those who think they are. ;-) But thanks for the kind words. :-) > Kelly > (I know, that's a very selfish thing to say, isn't it?!) Probably not .. I recall having similar feelings a few times over the years when good commanders or subordinates decided to retire. But the first " official " step of planning to retire from a business is to make it known in the business .. it sorta motivates one to follow through - and that's why I am doing this. I don't want to talk myself out of it. Jan wrote: > Is Butch retiring. Yes ma'am .. its a normal progression in life .. something most folks look forward to. I'm not going to stop working .. I'm just gonna stop working for money. ;-) I need to do all the things I haven't done .. need to climb some more mountains and fish some more streams .. need to travel a lot more and visit old military friends afore they go under snakes .. and if I get bored doing that I might like doing volunteer work for outfits like the Sheriff's Ranches that teach little city yonkers how to survive in the wild .. to appreciate nature and to build self confidence. I MUST get out of this damn chair in front of this damn PC .. it keeps me out of shape and I don't like it. There is no way I can continue to do this and remain healthy. Just last night a buddy and I went to a disco. I don't normally like discos but this one is a 60s disco .. has an American Bandstand theme. I started showing off for a bunch purty young gals and got into the twist, the stroll and a whole lotta shaking going on .. it was fun cause it was my kind of music and brought back a lot of good memories .. had a ball till 4 this morning. Hit the rack around 5 and got up at 2 .. found muscles I didn't know I had. ;-) I am not a young man but I am not ready to feel like this as a matter of routine. I had not danced like that in maybe three years .. but I can recall that I felt pretty good the next morning back then .. I am sorta embarrassed at how I feel today. And .. I can think of no reason to continue to work when I can draw my Social Security and get damn near as much benefit as I do from working. This EO business can be dealt with in a number of ways .. folks who run a shop out of their home and sell only retail sizes EO can make a fair amount of money .. but they must be willing to work a minimum of 12 hours a day. They can avoid the administrative requirements of detailed book keeping and inventory control and such. When one gets into retail and wholesale .. as I am .. and deals in high volume .. as I do .. they need a walk in shop and employees and all the normal expenses that go with running a company. Then they must have a heckuva large volume of sales to pay all the monthly expenses and still have a buck or two for themselves. > He did say in the e-mail I just read that he can keep three people employed > in Maryland. What's the scoop? That's pretty much it .. I have three folks working there now but having to manage people is a lot more of a hassle than I need also .. I need to start taking care of myself and sitting on my butt in front of a PC monitor is NOT taking care of myself. > Jan Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com >>by the end of 2005 I will most likely fold.
