Guest guest
Must have been talking about a Michigan turn around It's when you turn right go a little ways and turn around and go back the way you just came. Around here we have a lot of divided roads where if you want to go east, you have to go west a ways before you come to a break in the median to turn around and go east. Friends from Texas used to tease me about 'driving like you're in Michigan' and I had to ask what they ment. They also said you drive like New York if you're leaning out the window yelling at other drivers and using hand gestures. Since I've only visited NY state, I yell and gesture from inside the car Paula ........in Michigan Coming soon Farm Fresh Soaps & Candles - scentsl Friday, January 14, 2005 5:07 AM Re: re:OT Prayers needed Hi Jaime, As old as I am, I have never heard anything like this before. I'm from Michigan, yet I have been to many states. Know I wouldn't want to live in Ca. But thats due to earthquakes. Although just a couple months ago, while leaving the hospital, my daughter was on the phone with my other daughter telling her how to get there. She told her I just did a Michigan. My daughter is 39. I didn't know what she was talking about. I had just circled a island. Then about a month later, I went to a mall in Novi. The valet brought up my car. I asked if I would be able to get back on west bound 12 Mile rd where the light was. He told me yes, just do a Michigan. I'm thinking this is something new. As I was born in this state. Its sure was new to me. LOL Nancy LOL I hear some pretty scathing remarks about CA (and its residents) which leads me to believe that a lot of people just plain don't cotton to us. I've even heard it said, during earthquakes, firestorms, and floods, that we're obviously getting what we deserve in all our iniquity, which leads me to believe that a lot of people wouldn't bother praying for us. All I know is that whenever my family travels to other parts of the country, people ask where we're from. When we say CA they either act like it's someplace exotic and bizarre, or they act astonished and say things like, " But you seem so NORMAL. " <G> jaime p.s. I wasn't born here but my husband, my sons, and my brother are all natives
Guest guest
Hey now! I live in NY state and I don't stick my head out the window and gesture. That's NYC - BIG DIFFERENCE!!!! Those folks scare me to death! I haven't yelled at anyone in ages. I usually sit there looking REALLY confused. So many people look like they are lost. And it isn't just folks in NY. I have this happen in MA, VT and RI. Maybe it's a New England thing where we are all lost...lol I have never heard of that Michigan thing. I know Jersey has that concrete wall up dividing the state. They make you drive 800 miles out of your way to go right. Makes me nuts. So I stay out of Jersey..lol PA is ALWAYS under construction. Any idea if they will ever finish 81? I may not live long enough.. ~Shyra A. Guest guest
In the years that I went back and forth from Michigan to Kentucky to Visit mom and dad on I-75, I watched them construct, re-construct and re-construct the re-construction. Though I haven't been that way for a while, I doubt they are done yet. Guest guest
Hi Paula, Sorry I'm so backed up on all my mail. I just never knew there was a name for our ways of making turns in Michigan. Had no problem driving in Texas. Never have driven myself in New York, only took Taxi Cabs there. But years ago, we went near Boston. Now I thought those people drove crazy. Within several hours I just wanted to get out of the state. We did spend the night. When I was young I didn't mind driving through states with mountains. Do enjoy the passenger seat now.
