For now instead of a book...would you PLEASE put a recipe and your simplified

directions in the file section of the list? I have problems with dilution!!! I

can get to the paste stage without any problems. However, it takes me DAYS to

dilute it...and have tried several methods and recipes!! HELP!! I know of at

least one or two on the list that might benifit from this as well.

Hey gal,

I'll consider whether or not I should spill those secrets *lol* .. but

lets start with the current issue you're having .. the paste diluting.

It will take a full day to get that paste to dissolve. I had one gal

write to me that hers wasn't dissolving and I told her to leave it

overnight and the next morning I got an e-mail from a very excited owner

of a pot of gorgeous liquid soap <grinz>

I find that if you heat the diluting water to very hot or a boil it

helps it fully dissolve faster ... I really don't use a stick blender

when diluting it either cause that just makes froth that doesn't go away

easily ... also, I have stopped using borax. Found it to not provide me

any benefits personally. If I want to adjust the pH that is one thing,

but I haven't, so .. ;-p

What methods have you tried?

used the borax method...then the alchohol method..not in the same batch...also

tried the boiling the dilution water. Do you chunk up your paste? I've tried

that too, but it seems to go back to a solid chunk before the water(boiling hot)

starts to melt it. Especially if I try and stir it. Have left it overnight

too, and I do get some liquid soap on top, but when I try and stir (both using

the stickblender and also regular spoon), it goes back to paste. Will try it

again sometime this next week though, as I need to conquer it, if only once,

hahaha!

Hey Anita,

> used the borax method...

I think all that does for me is make cloudy soap ;-p Plus that borax

doesn't like to dissolve easily!

> then the alchohol method..not in the same batch...

I've never even gone near that. I figure I'll try that when I want to

explore making the clear glycerin style soap. No need to go through all

that to make liquid soap - plus the liquid soap can be drying enough

since its not superfatted, don't need to add alcohol on top of that

*lol*

> also tried the boiling the dilution water.

And that didn't work for ya, huh?

> Do you chunk up your paste? I've tried that too, but it seems to go

Is your " paste " actually solid? Since you say " chunk it up " it sounds

like its too hard to me. It should be like the consistency of Vaseline.

How much coconut oil are you using in your recipe? Too much can make

your liquid concentrate too solid instead of being a mushy " paste " . The

only time I got a solid soap when I used KOH was when I made an all

coconut liquid soap for someone at their request. It came out more like

a chunk of clear glycerin soap than liquid soap base and that was a pain

to work with and I swore I'd not do it again ;)

I tend to use more " soft oils " in my liquid soap recipes .. I use a

little coconut and I don't use palm at all (although I might try using a

bit of red palm for the color in an upcoming batch) ... I haven't

explored making liquid soap with animal fats cause I don't really use

animal fats in any of my soaps as my customer base is more comfortable

with veggie soaps, so that's what I give 'em :)

All I can think to do is put the pot of soap base with the hot water in

a low oven covered and keep adding water as needed. And be sure when

making your paste that it is coming out like paste - remember - Vaseline

consistency. It should have no shape and be mush between your fingers

.... it should be slime *lol*

it, if only once, hahaha!

Good luck! Keep us posted :)
