Guest guest
Hi Listmates, Our section of southern Utah has been hit by a 100 year flood, after 7 years of drought. What is normally a sleepy small creek became a raging river that has taken over 20 homes and two lives with it as it moves rapidly creating a new path for itself. Many friends have lost the homes as well as their land, some belongings were able to be saved. I do not live in the flood plane but there has been much destruction all over this area. Your thoughts and prayers and energy will be appreciated by all. Thanks much, Sandi " When the soul approaches the mysteries; when it tries to rally to the great spiritual principles, the perfumes are there " ~Marguerite Maury, The Secret of Life and Youth " ~

Guest guest
<< Its really sad to see all the storms across the country. Nancy>> You're right. I know that a lot of folks don't like Californians much but we could sure use some of those prayers and positive thoughts. This week a lot of property was lost or damaged and at least 7 people were killed in the flooding. The area where I grew up is completely closed off because of mudslides so no one can go in or out. The whole mountain seems to be dissolving. The residents are essentially trapped, receiving food and supplies via helicopter. Most of those people commute to their jobs, so of course the ones who were home during the flash flood are stuck there and can't get to work, while the ones who were at work are stuck in motels and can't go home again. They all just went through this with the fires a year ago. They must be getting good at it by now.... Where I live now, there have been bridges washed away and road closures due to mud coming off the barren hillsides resulting from last summer's fire (that fire was scary--I could see the flames from my driveway so I packed up all the pets and photos and documents and was poised to go, except all the roads were impassable. We were ringed by fires. If it hadn't been for a wind shift I doubt I'd be sitting here typing about it now). Several neighborhoods have been without power and schools have been closed. My son's little truck almost got swept away by black water that came out of nowhere but he kept his head and managed to get out of trouble. My husband's route to work is barred so he's got an extra two hours of driving now. But he's content to put up with that compared to our neighbors' difficulties--several of them had portions of their roofs torn off in the storms and LOTS of water blew into their houses. Others have had water rising up in the crawlspaces underneath their homes. There is supposed to be a respite from rain through the weekend, so cross your fingers! Even so, every time the communities catch their breath and start on repairs they only get so far before the next one hits. We feel like bowling pins. Set us up, knock us down, set us up, knock us down. Make that really wet bowling pins. jaime
Guest guest
Hi Jamie, Didn't know people don't like Califorians much. Thats what I have been watching. Have several friends in Ca. The one is real close to all the damage. Thankfully they cancelled the plans to go to Lake Tahoe, before all this started. Yes I have had the people in Ca in my thoughts and Prayers. Was surprised to hear about Utah, that I hadn't seen on the news. Hugs Nancy You're right. Maybe I am naieve but I thought they were humans like the rest of us. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I've missed some of this thread, but just thought I would chime in. My prayers each day lately are with ALL who have lost their homes, property and their loved ones and friends through the mighty forces of Mother Nature. I watched a CNN Special Report last night called " Extreme Weather " . It was amazing to see just how many people have suffered losses and how many lives have been taken by " natural disasters " in the last year alone. The worst hurricane season in history, fire storms, more rain than in 90 years, and then, of course, the horrific tsunamis. All people in all places benefit from prayer. We're all created equal! Even us " unlikeable " Californians! Michelle Now in Phoenix, AZ where we've had some nasty weather lately too! P.S. Before anyone gets on me, this note is focused on weather only. It is not intended to slight the loss of life and property caused by a senseless war, or the millions of hungry and homeless people around the world. Guest guest
Thanks, Nancy ) It's appreciated. I hadn't been aware of the dangers in Utah, either. It didn't make the news here but it should have. Not only is their experience similar, which should make it of interest to Californians, but lots of people travel between the two states and it would be nice if they could count on their newscasters to keep them informed of conditions. After all, not everyone has access to the internet for information, right? Practically every person I know in CA has a friend or relative in UT, myself included. I think I'll get in touch and find out how they're weathering the weather! jaime
Guest guest
<<Why wouldnt people like CAlifornians?? >> LOL I hear some pretty scathing remarks about CA (and its residents) which leads me to believe that a lot of people just plain don't cotton to us. I've even heard it said, during earthquakes, firestorms, and floods, that we're obviously getting what we deserve in all our iniquity, which leads me to believe that a lot of people wouldn't bother praying for us. All I know is that whenever my family travels to other parts of the country, people ask where we're from. When we say CA they either act like it's someplace exotic and bizarre, or they act astonished and say things like, " But you seem so NORMAL. " <G> jaime p.s. I wasn't born here but my husband, my sons, and my brother are all natives

Guest guest
Hi Jaime, As old as I am, I have never heard anything like this before. I'm from Michigan, yet I have been to many states. Know I wouldn't want to live in Ca. But thats due to earthquakes. Although just a couple months ago, while leaving the hospital, my daughter was on the phone with my other daughter telling her how to get there. She told her I just did a Michigan. My daughter is 39. I didn't know what she was talking about. I had just circled a island. Then about a month later, I went to a mall in Novi. The valet brought up my car. I asked if I would be able to get back on west bound 12 Mile rd where the light was. He told me yes, just do a Michigan. I'm thinking this is something new. As I was born in this state. Its sure was new to me. LOL Nancy LOL I hear some pretty scathing remarks about CA (and its residents) which leads me to believe that a lot of people just plain don't cotton to us.
