Bladder Infection Help

Hello -

As a woman, who's had so many bladder infections over the past

several years I've lost count, let me tell you what I have learned

which has helped me.

First - Three years ago, I was on/off antibiotics for over an entire

year, because of repeated, stubborn bladder infections that just

would not go away. I'd barely get over one and BAM, here came

another one, right on it's heels. Each urine sample I gave was

cultured to make sure the antibiotic (of the week) I was on, was the

correct one to use. However, all this didn't help in reducing the

number of B.I.'s I had.

I used to drink quarts and quarts and quarts of cranberry juice.

I'd panic when I was close to being out of it and had a stash of

several bottles in my pantry. I had to cut my cranberry juice with

water or 7-up, because of the constant irritation to my stomach from

drinking so much.

I was so keen on recognizing the early stage symptoms of an

infection starting, I was able to take a urine sample to my Dr. for

rapid testing to get another Rx for an antibiotic. My GP even gave

me a supply of urine sample cups to keep at home. You know, once

it's really going, you can barely get out of the bathroom to even

think about taking a urine sample in to your Dr. Right?

It finally got so bad, my GP referred me to an Urologist, who wanted

to do scopes, biopsies, probes, MRI's, etc. You know, all that

yucky and expensive stuff. I didn't want to go that route, for

several reasons, as you can imagine.

Below is what I discovered. It has helped me so much, I rarely get

one now. I hope it will help some of you.

Cranberry juice DOES NOT prevent bladder infections. My GP and

Urologist told me this. What it does is - makes the inside of the

bladder slick, so germs have less of a chance to attach and cause a

B.I.

Plus, you can't drink all the cranberry juice needed to do this for

a couple of reasons. Cranberry juice you buy in the grocery stores

isn't 100% cranberry juice, it's commonly a blended juice. And, as

much as you'd have to drink it could cause irritation to your

stomach, esophagus, bowels, etc. The acidity is too much for some

women. It can also cause diarrhea in some women too.

As if the bladder infection isn't enough!

In one of my Home Remedy books (Rodale Press), I found a little and

cheap recipe for stopping a B.I. I asked my GP about it, and she

said, " yes, it will work. " The recipe is this: (1) drink a 16 oz

glass of water; (2) immediately after that, drink 1 tablespoon

baking soda mixed in 4 oz of water. That's IT!

Do NOT use this remedy after eating a large meal. Do NOT drink

anything else for a minimum of 1/2 hour afterwards. Do NOT take RX

pyridium, Uristat or AZO, if you take the baking soda recipe. It

takes the place of these other Rx/OTC's. YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS AT

THE VERY FIRST SIGN OF B.I. SYMPTOMS TO HAVE IT HELP YOU!

I admit, the baking soda/water mixture is yucky, but HEY - it does

work! I've written this recipe down on a recipe card and keep it

handy for if/when I need it.

Another thing, my GP said to routinely take at least 3,000 mg's of

vitamin C per day. She said, this works better than drinking

gallons of cranberry juice and it's cheaper. BUT, you must take it

daily to have continuous help.

Plus, tons and tons and tons of just WATER! Water will flush out

the bacteria hiding in your bladder! Just think, when you're

downing your umpteenth glass of water, that all those little germs

are going right down the drain!

Another thing - some women are allergic to aspartame (sp) in diet

pop/drinks. It's well documented this additive can irritate the

bladder and you can look it up on the Internet.

Also, for you caffeine drinkers - my GP said, caffeine is a bladder

irritant too. The more you drink, the more the bladder can be

irritated. If you drink a lot of pop (diet/regular), regular

coffee/tea, you might try cutting back to see it this helps.

When I stopped drinking tons of diet pop, my B.I.'s all but

stopped. So was it the aspartame (sp) or caffeine? I don't know,

but I certainly don't want to try to find out either. I still have

a Coke from time to time, but I don't guzzle it like before.

That's it. I hope some of this helps some of you. Been there, done

that WAY TOO MUCH, so I can truly sympathize!

Thanks -

KJ

Congratulations, thanks for sharing, and hey,

who cares?

The benefits to your health will go

much beyond no more infections.

Your bones will be a lot stronger too!
