Guest guest
Hi all, > Basically the EU have ordered a withdrawal of Vicks Baby > Balm, evidentially (I think - I only read English and reports > I can find are in French) due to the eucalyptol and camphor > content. It seems there have been cases of neurological > problems in infants. I've been wondering something: I always learned not to use eucalyptus, even not E. smithii or E. radiata, with children under 2 years of age. The reason would be that it can cause neurological problems. This is what is written in this article about the Vicks Baby Balm too. On the other hand: I went to our homeopath this week with my daughter who's 4 months old now, because she has a bit of a cold. The homeopath prescribed her suppositories with Eucalyptus EO in it! I would think the pruducer (Soria) would know not to use it in suppositories for children... So what it is? Could it be harmful for babies or is there no scientific evidence to back this up? Guest guest
Saskia, This is a tough one.. As an inhalant, I also would be cautious about the Euca's and especially camphor with little babies...goes straight to the olfactory system and also the lungs.. suppositories take a different path, also if it was a homeopathic prescription, the amount would be minute...
