Guest guest
I'm a type II diabetic, and I really really really really really hate these meds I'm taking. The expense is outrageous, and they also sometimes make me nauseous and give me diarrhea. I was wondering if there are any herbal remedies known to help with blood sugar levels. Even if it would help to lower my dosage I would be ever so thankful. -- Sandy
Guest guest
Hey Lisa, Yes, those are some nasty meds alright. Remember though, herbs often don't mix well with prescription drugs. You must use caution and check carefully for contraindications. I'm happy to help with that. There are a number of supplements and herbs that are very beneficial for regulating the blood sugar. I never encourage people to quit taking their meds, but with your MD's support, you can begin to lower your dosage as you incorporate more natural remedies. Now, getting your doctors support is another story! Since we're in contact through Holistic Menopause anyway, why don't you write to me off list and I'll give you a few suggestions. Guest guest
Seems the newest/old thing for diabetics is to use cinnamon, of course not for severe diabetics , but the one that can be controlled with diet and weightloss. Guest guest
Here's what Mercola has to say about Cinnamon. Looks very promising indeed. http://www.mercola.com/2004/may/1/cinnamon_diabetes.htm Michelle Christa Maria wrote: Seems the newest/old thing for diabetics is to use cinnamon. Hi Christa! I ran out of my diabetic meds a month ago and started on Cinnamon and Chromium Picolinate. This month when they checked my overall sugar it was down and by rights shouldnt have been. I was 2 weeks without my meds and am working on getting rid of them all together. Told my Quack I was gonna cure myself and he laughed. Wrong thing to do. I am NOT a serious (insulin) diabetic but it is a pain to have. Guest guest
Hi Neysa, Lest you give the wrong impression, lets make it very clear you cannot, repeat cannot get cured of diabetes. Its just not possible. The best you can ever hope to achieve is to control the symptoms. You need to work with the system, and not self medicate - its a very dangerous thing. Medication is time released, and as per my understanding, you would need longer than two weeks to be sure you can stop taking medication. Some people can keep their blood sugar under control with diet and exercise, some cannot. But to say that you can control diabetes with herbs is dangerous, and there are many " quack " companies out there purporting to do just that. Mary Well, Naturally Type 2 diabetic, and controlled with medication, because it just is not possible with diet, exercise and herbs, believe me I tried. Guest guest
Sandy, This is a blatant commercial message, but it is simply the best thing I know. A formula called Metabazon, from Amazon Herb Company. (http://wildhealing.net) Consisting among other things of Pata de Vaca and Pedra Huma Caa, two herbs that are known in Brazil as " vegetable insulin " . Also good: gymnema sylvestre, and good old cinnamon! Ien in the Kootenays ******************************* Stop. Breathe. Guest guest
Hi Mary, Just wanted to let you know it's possible to reverse diabetes to the point that there is no indication of it in any organ. The friend who did this was in his 60's. Followed to the letter (very disciplined) every thing his doc said and within 3 years maximum, no trace. This is as close to curing as one could get. He still follows the regimen and he's been symptom free now for about 7 years.
