Okay folks. Here's the story and surely hope someone can help me and

fast! I've had three ruptured disks since 6/23/2003 (job related

injury). I was put on a very strong pain med beginning with " v " (not

sure if I can name it??). Had back surgery 12/23/04. In the process

of healing but tried to stop " cold turkey " taking the pain med. (I'm

trying to deal with the pain by just using aspirin... not working

real well but...) My body has this wierd feeling, I can't sit still,

can't sleep, I know I'm addicted. I'd questioned my doctor at each

visit during the past 1 1/2 yrs....am I going to have a problem

getting off this stuff & was always reassured I would not. Well guess

what folks... that's not the story! So, go to the doctor and get more

drugs to get off the drugs?? Looked in my EDR, took out the oils to

use for addiction and using them. Not getting much help. Good golly -

if anyone has any ideas, PLEASE let me know. I don't want to be on

this stuff.

Hello Ardis,

Are you talking about Vicodin? Hydrocodone? Same thing just a

different (or generic) name for Vicodin. Yes it is addictive and I

was addicted to it about 10 yrs ago. My doctor picked up the signs

and said, " No more! " I wouldn't have known any different if he

hadn't told me. Was the first time I'd taken it and I only knew it

helped my pain, post surgery (from an accident). Being allergic to

codeine, Vicodin was the one alternative that helped me.

Drink plenty of water; do a colon cleanse (there are over the counter

products for this too). Your doctor may be denying you are addicted

because he is accountable. Consider this... the FDA is coming down

on doctors who prescribe Vicodin over an extended period of time

because of over-prescribing and addiction. If he puts it in your

records that you are addicted... what does that say for him?

Use caution and take care of yourself. Go with your gut. If you

feel that you may be addicted, take control and put your body

straight.

Sorry I can't help you with much more other than a hug and good

wishes. But I am offering advice to you that I gave myself

recently. I was taking a different medication for a different

problem. Thought I might be addicted so I stopped it and asked for

something else. I also asked my doctor to keep it " off the record "

because one day I may need to take it again. I'm dealing with a rare

degenerative bone syndrome that has no FDA approved drugs to help.

So I can't afford to overstay my welcome with any one (presription

strength pain reliever) drug nor can I afford to be addicted to any

of them. ;o)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Good evening Ardis

I'm going to let the rest of the group give you info on the oils to use. I

looked up info on flower essence. First of all let me say that I looked up

" Addiction " and I'm not in anyway implying that you are addicted to or have in

anyway abused your pain meds. I just didn't know what else to look under. Here

are some suggestions

Angelica -- especially useful during drug withdrawal, to help soul realign with

benevolent spiritual guides.

Chamomile - nervousness, hyperactivity or irritability associated with drug

withdrawal; calming and stabilizing

Five-Flower Formula (rescue remedy) -- initial treatment of addiction, to

stabilize the body-mind; also helpful in treating drug overdose

Lavender - sedating nerves frayed from drug use, especially stimulants

Morning glory -- breaking free from addictive habits, esp the need for

stimulants

Self-Heal - overall healing support for addiction therapy; confidence in one's

inner resources to overcome addition

All my info was obtained from " Flower Essence Repertory " I copied it word for

word on those flowers essence that sounded like they might be a fit.

Good luck with your journey and hang in there, you'll overcome this

I had vicodin when they fixed my hip, I did not know what they gave me,

just thought I had a stroke, for I talked with my jaw moving very

slowly, it scared me terribly, thought I would be stuck with that, also

had bad concentration problems. Got off the stuff before I left the

hospital.

Was too scared to be addicted to it.

During the past 3 years, I've could have any painkiller under the sun,

easily, but toughed it out. I am just too scared of the stuff. Two extra

strength tylenol is about all I will take..using an arsenal of herbal

remedies that have good power, too.

A lot of the commercial painkillers play with your mind, something I

absolutely hate...

Vicodin has no codeine. It is hydrocodone which is not codeine...FYI. But

it can be hard on the stomach, so it is recommended to take it with food.

Vicodin DOES have a synthetic codeine in it. It is made up of hydrocodone

bitartrate and acetaminophen (Tylenol). According to Dorland's Medical

Dictionary, hydrocodone is " a semisynthetic narcotic derivative of codeine

having sedative and analgesic effects more powerful than those of codeine. "

Hydrocodone bitartrate is " a semisynthetic narcotic derivative of codeine

used as an antitussive, administered orally. "

I wouldn't say that Vicodin is not codeine. It is definitely a narcotic,

even if mostly a synthetic one.

Thank you for this correction. I think I'd be dead now if it had

codeine in it. whew! Or there's a mis-diagnosis somewhere in my

medical files. ;o)

Karen,

maybe you're thinking about Ultram or Ultracet? That is Tramadol and

Tylenol.

Hi Ardis,

I haven't read all of the responses to your post, so forgive me if I

repeat anything that's already been suggested.

I wonder if you have tried the homeopathic Arnica Montana for your

pain? It's tremendous, all natural and has no contraindications.

You'll find it in any vitamin store.

Also, the homeopathic Bach Flower Remedy " Walnut " is very helpful for

breaking addictions.

These are just 2 of many ideas popping into my mind. You will also

want to do at least a light detox to support your liver and reduce

your " cravings " and/or withdrawl symptoms. Milk Thistle and Dandelion

can be used daily. Yogi has a great detox tea, but a combo tincture

would be best.

If you're up to it, a fast would be a great idea. I would also

suggest increasing your water consumption to help flush your body of

toxins.

Hope this helps, and that you're feeling much better.

Michelle

Yup - Vicodin is just like codeine for me - I'm 'allergic' to anything w/

codeine or synthetic codeine - Makes me very nauseated and yicky. So I tell

all docs that so they won't give it to me and find something else for pain

when needed.
