Guest guest
Thenk you everyone for your help! I tried washing the blanket last night. We live in a tiny town where there is no laundrymat or dry cleaners close by, and the weather was too nasty to go to St. Joe. I don't really have heat in my bedroom and I really missed that blanket. I used the very gentle cycle and ended up air drying it on my shower curtain rod (which made me do all kinds of acrobatic moves I never dreamed I could do and believe me, will never do again. Hubby, who is taller than I, and could have put that big bundle on the rod much easier than I, was asleep already.) I did notice the cleaning did not get the smell out, so I will try the shout and fabreeze. My poor little kitty. Rhavda, after reading your post, I really got thinking. We have been giving my sick baby all this attention lately and I am thinking maybe I am making somebody jealous. All three of my cats like to get on that bed when the electric blanket is on because of the warmth. It is possible one of the other cats might have peed on the bed in protest. I will have to make sure I give the other cats lots and lots of attention to make up. I know exactly what you mean Rhavda about the cats showing their displeasure. We've had other paybacks before, (just not on my bed before, so I must have made someone really mad), and the most memorable incident was when hubby and I were first married. I had bought a fancy slinky nightgown for my honeymoon that had spaghetti straps and when hubby and I had returned and settled down in our little apartment, I found myself dealing with one jealous little cat. Hubby had a little calico cat who had been rescued from the pound some time before and became his constant companion. When I came around, I took a lot of his attention away from the cat. She chose her moment to get back at me by chewing the straps off of my nightgown and using her claws on the rest of the material. Then she went after some of my dresses in the closet. I had always been a dog person before I married hubby, and I found cats were a whole new experience for me. The only thing cats have in common with dogs is that they are both animals and have four legs, both eat and excrete the same way and that was all. It took me a long time to get in that cat's good graces (especially I was the one who had to take her to the vet for her shots, etc.), but I eventually won her over. Now hubby and I just don't find a house complete unless it has a cat or two around. So I guess I will have to work on that blanket today and spend the rest of the time giving lots of attention to all my babies. I am like you..I don't really like the smell of fabreeze, and I was hoping I could spray something else on the blanket, but I will try it. Sorry to sound like such a dummy about cleaning this blanket, but this one is comparatively new and it was expensive. Other blankets I have had in the past never worked right after washing and I was hoping to avoid any problems with this one. Thanks to all of you for your help..I really appreciate it. Guest guest
Hi..I usually use vinegar in my rinse water when washing clothes and had hoped that would do the trick. I will try it and the shout. My poor kitty has not been drinking water and we have been having to give it to him with an eye dropper to get fluids in him and his urine is really concentrated. His cancer is progressing fast and I suppose this is one of the things we will have to put up with until the end. We just are concentrating on keeping him as comfortable as possible. I see this as a sign his kidneys are still working, but oh, his urine is strong! He hates the eye dropper, but he won't drink or eat and as he has little time left, I just can't bear having the vet put all those needles in him for ivs and all. I don't know...we'll see. He's not suffering right now, thank God, but I am hoping this doesn't give the other cats messages that it is ok to use the bed as another kitty box. That is one reason I am trying so hard to get the urine smell out. I will try the vinegar again because I can tolerate it better than fabreeze. Fabreeze is good, but I get such a headache from it. Thanks for your help.. Guest guest
Not to get off the subject of odor removal.... but we have a cat that did the same thing.. twice. It was right before her yearly vet visit and I mentioned it to him. He said if cats are used to a litter box they will only go on the bed if they have some sort of bladder infection. He checked her, and sure enough, she did. He medicated her, and we've had no problems since! Becky in DE cherliz_1 [cherry_r_swartz] <snipped> My poor little kitty.
