Guest guest
Hello all.still have power and our ice storm turned into a sleet storm. Now getting snow on top of it all. Not too good out there right now and I still haven't found bag of salt hubby bought last year. Have sneaking suspicion he gave it to somebody to make ice cream with this summer. Called and informed him he is getting old and as proof of that fact, the mind is one of the first things to go and he has definitely lost his. He informed me that it was I who gave away the salt. oops. Need help from all of you on a problem that came up during the night. From my last post I mentioned my cat will be saying goodby soon. I also mentioned that I had my electric blanket on in case the power goes out and I would have a half-way warm bed to get into. (if the power had gone out, believe me, I was not going to waste any time to get under the covers. This old house cools off real, real quick.) Well, guess who found a good warm spot on the bed..all of my babies; each one had a spot for themself to curl up in. This has never been a problem before (except when I wanted to get in it. Hubby is a marshmallow when it comes to those cats and he has the amazing ability to worm his way in without disturbing the cats at all). But my sick cat for the first time peed on my bed. He has always gotten to the litter box before, but maybe because it was cold and he didn't want to leave the bed, or if he is getting at that point where he is losing control of himself, I am not sure, but he went on the end of the bed and it went through all the blankets, including the electric blanket. The bad thing is that because it was on the end, I never knew about it until this morning. Too late to do any sopping up...the electric blanket dried it up good. How can I clean it up off the electric blanket? It is huge; it is supposed to be for a queen sized bed, but I have a queen sized bed and this blanket is much bigger. Definitely won't go into my washer, besides, I am afraid to wash it. The other blankets I can wash, but what to use on the electric blanket? Can anyone help me and is there something that will discourage this from happening again, AT-wise? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks and stay safe.. Guest guest
I haven't had or used an electric blanket in more yrs than I care to think about. I always thought they were washable. If so you may need to go to a Laundromat with over sized washers. Poor kitty. They will go to the litter box even if it is cold if they can before they will wet themselves. My experience with them is they are pretty fussy about that type of thing. Good luck Rita cherliz_1 <cherry_r_swartz wrote: Hello all.still have power and our ice storm turned into a sleet storm. Guest guest
I put a big huge wad of packing tape around the plug in end and take it to the laudromat and wash it. Then when I get home, I cut the tape of with an exacto knife and put it bag on the bed. Just in case I run a towel over the plug and wait for a bit before plugging it back in. Guest guest
Dear Cherry, Do you have any Shout or something similar in your cleaning cabinet? If so, it will take cat and dog pee out of anything along with oops problems that the elderly have on furniture if their diaper is not secure. What I have done being that I have had problems with all three groups on everything from the carpet to chairs to pillows to blankets, etc. is to first spray down the object good and then to scrub it it wil small to medium scrub brush (2 1/2 inches wide by about 7 inches long). Then I blot up any excess with a thick paper towel and then throw the paper towel away. We have a 13 year old male cat that I helped birth and he rules our house needless to say. He, also, has begun to have problems over the past year. Before he had problems, his mother and sister also had problems, and our black, inkspot of a cat also made his share of " I'm mad at you and I will go where I please " when we brought a new dog into the house several years ago. Never let it be said that cats can't communicate because this one showed his displeasure by pooping on my best pillow. My husband saw him do it and just stood there - men! When my dh came to his senses the cat had politely jumped off of the pillow and was headed out the door. So I have had my share of pooping and peeing animals for years. I learned about the Shout from several ladies in PTA several years ago when we were discussing how to get rid of animal problems and fleas, mice, and squirrels. The main thing to get rid of squirrels and mice was to throw moth balls around where there were (but you can't do that around children) (mostly in the attic and around your foundation) and put into the vacum cleaner bag. Well, I tried the vacum cleaner bag once and said no more. As for around the house I nixed that idea because of the smell. However, I thought that I would throw these two methods out for the animal problems and the fleas & mice problems. I've also used apple cider vinegar first on the carpet and then the shout followed later by Fabreeze. Fabreeze won't get the pee out but it will get the smell and I don't care for the smell of Fabreeze. My son was the one who taught me about Fabreeze when he was in high school ROTC and had to keep his uniforms wrinkle free. Take care and good luck with your cat. Been there, still doing it with our cat and will be doing it until they pass on. Love, Rhavda
Guest guest
Cherry, If you have a wet/dry vacuum, it is easy. Put your blanket over a large plastic tub so that the spot is inside the tub. Pour hot soapy water over the area so that it passes into the plastic tub. Do not scrub it. Use your wet/dry vacuum to remove any moisture remaining. do not scrub it. Do the above several times until you feel that it is clean and the odor is gone. Hope you have a vacuum like that.
