Guest guest
Hi all - lot of " cut an pasting " going on below... so hope it all turns out OK!! Basically the EU have ordered a withdrawal of Vicks Baby Balm, evidentially (I think - I only read English and reports I can find are in French) due to the eucalyptol and camphor content. It seems there have been cases of neurological problems in infants. Wonder if it's a " one off " batch that has had too much oil added? EU Consumer alert issued 3/01/05... 210365/04 France Perfumed relaxing balm for body massage " WICKS BABYBALM " , 50ml bottle. Country of origin: Germany. Risk of convulsion. Neurological effect of terpenic derivatives causing convulsion to infants. Withdrawal from the market ordered by the authorities; Assessment of the neurological toxicity in order to establish thresholds in cosmetics and health products. See http://tinyurl.com/6q4mn for these details... (Translation courtesy of Google..) Mercerdi December 16. Following the withdrawal, at the beginning of December, of all the batches currently on the market of Vicks Babybalm (pot of 50 ml) and with two alarms of December the 3 and 4, the French Agency of medical safety of the products of health (Afssaps) publishes on its Internet site a supplemented list of the numbers of the batches concerned like their expiry date. 19, these batches which have an expiry date lower than June 2007 were withdrawn from the market following undesirable neurological effects (in particular convulsions) which have occurred in two nourrissons. The scenting balsam of Procter & Gamble, intended to mass the chest of the babies of more than 3 months, contains terpenic derivatives (essential oils containing of the eucalyptol and camphor), whose risk of toxicity is currently evaluated according to the concentration. The list of all the batches concerned with this withdrawal is accessible to the following address: http://afssaps.sante.fr/htm/alertes/filalert/co041202.pdf Love Liz
