Guest guest
Dear Georgia, Now we got to figure out how all of us can really get together in person to make this dinner. Any suggestions? All suggestions will be reviewed and looked at to see which one will work best. Ya'll are all welcome to come and contribute. Many years ago before I got married, my 2 roommates and I threw a New Year's Eve Party. We had folks from around the world show up. The admission fee was to bring your country's favorite food. We had every continent except the Artic Circle and AnArtic represented. We had such wonderful food that night and it was a dry party since most of us were college kids under 21 years of age. I guess that is why I brought up this virtual dinner because it reminds me that no matter where you are from that when everyone gets together to break bread we all become one, big family. Someone commented about the lack of our government contributing aid. That has been taken care of not only by our government but also by our people with their generosity. It seems that we rally to help when help is needed. But we also need to remember that we still have hurricane victims in Florida and the Southern United States and just in the past few days flooding on the West Coast. These people need to be remembered along with the Tsunami victims in their time of need. Who is going to help these people? We all need to come together and pray for love, generosity, harmony, prosperity, good health, help from all over the world helping all of the world and not just one corner of the world. We rebuilt Europe and Japan after WWII and we will help rebuild wherever we go today. We send people everywhere to help all types of victims. The Texas Baptist Men's Group sends groups of men throughout the world to help those in need and they pay their own way. The government does not help pay anything. This is one of the world's largest Christian charity organizations. They don't make loud noises when they leave. They just go and do what is needed. That is also being done by several of our local college groups who were planning to go to SE Asia to study. Instead they are taking medicines, food, clothing and anything else that the airlines will let them carry to help. This is the kind of aid that we are sending. Aid that is quiet and you never hear about unless you have given something to them to pass along. Most Americans would rather go in and do their work quietly than make a big noise because often times when you make a big noise, nothing much really gets accomplished as in the United Nations and their mess-up in the food program several years ago. I would rather wait a day or two to make sure that my money is going to actually go and be used for what it is supposed to be used for than give and have it squandered. We have already sent supplies and hospital ships to help. We are now trying to work with others to coordinate efforts so that we don't have duplication of efforts and supplies stolen, lost, sold, or abused. We have people to help and that is what we will do. Just stating my opinion and making comments and trying to share my feelings. I am devasted for these people and I am doing what I can do here, in my hometown. I can contribute money and I can help coordinate aid by telephone and if I am needed I will do whatever else it takes. One should never underestimate what one person or a small group of people can get accomplished when it comes to helping others. Americans have big hearts and have helped the world for as long as I can remember and I am 55 now. I remember taking in immigrants as a child by my parents when they needed sponsors. I have done the same 3 times over the past several years. Each of us does what we can do in our own way. Also remember that this country is now in an economic recession and we are still willing to give what we have to help others. I will end my comments here. Happy New Year! May your coming year be filled with love, good health, prosperity, joy, harmony, charity, and looking before you speak (me, definitely included). ;-D Rhavda in Texas Trying to make that Virtual Catfish Dinner Come Alive >Virtual Catfish Dinner > >When I read the menu I started to drool all over my >keyboard.
