Guest guest
Aloe vera (aloe barbadensis) is a tender perennial (can be grown outdoors in Zones 10 & 11 where there is no chance of frost) and member of the day lily family. There are over 500 species of aloe worldwide. It is native to Africa. The leaves are succulent, triangular and barbed. They can grow to over 24 inches tall. Flowers are yellowy orange. They can easily be propagated from offshoots that appear at the base of the plant. Transplant when 2 to 3 inches tall. Aloe likes to spread into colonies. Aloe prefers well drained sandy soil and a bright and sunny location (although too much sun is not preferable). Over watering can lead to rot. A good soaking every other week in summer and once a month in winter is acceptable. House bound aloes can benefit from being put outside in the summertime, but don't put it in direct all day sun. *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
