Hi Cherry,

> I don't know if any of you saw this on the national news, but I know

> the other people in Missouri saw this..In the town of Skidmore (just

> a few miles from my place) there was a pregnant woman murdered and

> her unborn child cut out of her womb.

That made the news here in Turkey .. I am still trying to explain to

folks that its not a norm .. that we are not what the Europeans used to

call the Turks .. Barbarians. But what I don't tell them is that I also

read on CNN News that this is not all that uncommon .. there have been a

few of these horrible crimes in the last few years in the USA. :-(

> This is terribly sad for all of us; in our part of the country, you

> know everybody, even if they are in a neighboring town, or so on.

> You either work with somebody or are related to them.

I hear you .. grew up in a town of 1,250 and most folks knew most folks

in the County. When a home boy killed a home girl with a screw driver

for her social security money .. and everyone knew who did it .. it took

a long time for the County to get back to normal .. and this was about a

Crack Head needing money so bad he didn't even cover his tracks.

Just last night I did a search on the I-Net for crime rates in various

parts of the USA .. http://www.bestplaces.net/col/col.aspx .. and some

folks would like to see honest citizens give up their guns. One thing

is for sure .. wherever I retire will be in a Conservative area .. no

way am I going to not have a means of protection in my home.

> the poor girl that was murdered and her husband are well known to my

> oldest daughter's boyfriend (the one who is supposed to pop the question

> any time...he said he is waiting for the " right moment " .

Hawhawhaw .. just had a long talk with two kids (in their early 30s but

still kids to me) last Thursday night .. they've been engaged for SIX

years and everybody is pushing the boy to set a date .. including the

girl. The knucklehead loves her and wants to marry her .. but keeps

saying its not the right time yet. Told the young feller that his cute

little gal might not be available when he thinks its the right time.

> I told him to get on with it...I want GRANDKIDS!

Good show .. keep it up future Granny. ;-)

> On a better note...my daughter is home and it was the greatest thing

> in the world to see her walk out of that gate and to hug her again!

Good show fer'shur.

> She is tickled pink to be home again, and the first thing she did

> was to go check her car out...at her age, that is the most important

> thing! She can't wait to get in it and drive around ALONE!

When I came home from the 'Nam the first time that was one of the first

things on my mind too .. had a Ford Galaxy that I missed a lot. ;-)

> She said it is so good to actually be alone and not surrounded by other

> members of her flight, etc. You other military people know what she

> means by that, I'm sure.

Yep .. understood. Since around the mid-1970s the military moved to

private and semi-private rooms .. but back in the old days .. when we

all lived in squad bays .. folks used to get married just to be able to

get out of living in the barracks .. I kid you not. We couldn't live

off post then unless we were married so all in all I guess it was about

as good a reason to get married as any other reason was then. ;-)

> Yes, Butch, she is at the Presidio at Monterey Bay. She is learning

> Korean, and I guess in a way, we are too.

Good show .. the Defense Language Institute at Monterey is the finest in

the entire world .. says those smarter than me. I attended two courses

there at DLI .. Vietnamese and Turkish and later a refresher in Turkish

afore I came back this time. Native teachers and they immerse students

into the cultural as well as linguistic aspects of the country.

> Most of the time it is the only way to understand her, by learning it

> in self-defense! Then, unless things change, she is supposed to be at

> Offutt AFB, then to Kadena.

Wow .. that's surprising .. since folks around Kadena speak Japanese.

But maybe that's a base for other operations now.

> She had to bring a ton of books with her because even though she is on

> leave, she has all this homework to do.

Dang betcha on that .. DLI is not an easy school .. they push you to the

max and each night one has 4-5 hours of homework. There is a lot of

rote memory but its effective.

> She's young and I'm sure she will be able to fit that in while she is

> busy seeing her friends, checking out old boyfriends, seeing all the

> relatives, and driving her car.

I'm sure she'll do it .. and I'm sure she'll not like to do it.

> Oh to be that age again!

Haw .. to be the age I was five years ago would be a nice enough

Christmas gift for me. ;-)

> Well better go. One of our cats is trying to make a " nest " in the

> Christmas Tree again. Talk to you all later,

>

> Cherry

Merry Christmas to you all .. and Happy Holidays to those who prefer to

look at it that way .. as I have heard (but don't want to believe) Macys

and Target and a few others are dealing with Christmas this year.

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch
