Guest guest
I know this topic has been discussed since I've been on the list, but searched archives and couldn't find it. M son is suffering with Athlete's Foot to the point he has scratched leisons on the top of his foot, and has it between his toes. He has used my suggestion of an epsom salts soak, but although it has helped a little, he still suffers. He also knows to wash and dry his feet very well after his shower. Even went so far as to buy himself a hairdryer. Know tea tree and lavender are good, but want to make a salve with natural beeswax or an herbal salve. Have on hand: comfrey root, calendula, plaintain, and some of the eo's that might be helpful (bulgarian lavender, tea tree, rosemary, and several others). Can someone help me with a serum or salve recipe? Need to use what I have on hand, as want it asap. TIA~ Anita in TX
Guest guest
Anita, Athlete's foot will not go away until you have ditched the socks and shoes he is wearing, no matter what you do, he will reinfect. White socks only, shoes that breathe, lot's of going bare feet and the only herbal remedy that I know that works is ACV infused Jewelweed, or the juice from it, frozen. Guest guest
Anita, I make a lotion bar with Tea Tree Oil and Lemongrass EO. Also make a soap with this combo too. I have a gentleman that gets this from me regularly....he said that it cleared up his Athlete's Foot almost immediately. I know that both oils are supposed to be good for stuff like this....and I don't have anything offhand that scientifically proves it works.....all I have to go on is the fact that it worked for this guy. He said that it worked better than any prescription medication he'd tried over the years. If you do make a lotion bar/salve....just make sure that it's applied to DRY skin... Otherwise, it might hold in too much moisture and cause more trouble. Just my 2 cents....hope it helps! Guest guest
OK, there is another remedy. I hesitated to put this out so open, but I know it works, seen it work. You use your morning pee on the athletes foot. Guys have an advantage there.... This also works on some other skin problems. Sounds gross, is gross, but works. However, if the same socks and shoes are worn, it will come back. When my son was younger, he played ice hockey and lived in his hockey boots and winter boots, he had terrible problems with his feet than, I did not cherish the thought of buying new boots , new socks, but it had to be done and NO sneakers, too much plastic on the feet, no air...For good a month I had him put on new socks every day and than new shoes when all was well healed. We had Dr. prescriptions, home remedies, but the pee is what did it... C-M

Guest guest
Anita, Neem oil or neem leaf powder are very good antifungal. If you have those use the neem oil in the salve and sprinkle the neem leaf powder in the shoes. The powder does stain a green, so have him wear dark socks. Hope you have these available. This is what I used on my athlete's foot and it worked. HTH, Karen S.
Guest guest
Hi Candy, Found this " Researchers examining 158 people with interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot between the toes) found a 'marked clinical response' after only a month in those who used a tea tree oil solution (Australasian Journal of Dermatology 2002; 43: 175-78) " http://www.mydr.com.au/default.asp?Article=3738 Virginia At 11:08 PM 17/12/2004, you wrote: >Anita, > >I make a lotion bar with Tea Tree Oil and Lemongrass EO. Guest guest
I've been under the weather and I am just getting into my e-mail for the first time today ... and I don't even KNOW where to start in list mail (so much catching up to do!), so here seems like as good a place as any .... My mom used to have bad athlete's foot. Nothing worked for her - over the years she tried all the OTC stuff and " home remedies " ... to no avail. Then we tried taheebo (I know, I talk about that herb a lot *lol*). We made a strong decoction out of it that she used daily as a foot soak... and made a salve with it and some tea tree, which she used daily. Well, the athlete's foot went away ... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
Hi Candy, The following excerpt from one of my books may be of some use to you. It's much better to use powders rather than salves to treat athlete's foot. Guest guest
I had heard that too...my husband has/had jungle rot (a VN vet), and no other medication worked for him, so he tried the pee, although it is a condition that will stay with him forever, and does flare up occationally, this method of control is the only one that has worked on his condition. Forgot about it though, and will suggest it to my son. Thanks again! Anita in TX > > OK, there is another remedy. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Nerys. I actually made the soap first....and then he asked me to put it into a lotion bar....because his feet were somewhat dry and cracked. The reason I made the soap with the Tea Tree Oil and Lemongrass to begin with, was just for the fragrance. I thought it smelled nice. I just found out by accident that it worked on Athlete's Foot. I know that more moisture can cause problems....that's why I said to make sure the feet are fully dry before putting the lotion bar or salve on the feet. I will have to try to make some powder too....perhaps he would like to use that as well. Hopefully this information will help Anita. She's the one that was asking for help with an Athlete's Foot Remedy originally. I think she's gotten some really good replies. Thanks again for the info. I've printed it and filed it with my other notes on EO's and such. Have a great day! Guest guest
I do want to thank all of you who responded to my request...I've put them into my " Athlete's Foot " folder, and will make up a salve(for night use) or powder for day use,and have my son use them one at a time for a month or so, to see which one does the best for him. I'll post his results, but remember, it will be awhile. Again, thanks VERY much!! Anita in TX
