Put it this way, your skin could look pretty messy with burns if you

do that. Okay seriously, it means using the oil undiluted in a

carrier base oil like Sweet Almond, Grapeseed, Jojoba, etc. Most

oils you cannot use neat on the skin, there are some you can get away

with once or twice if you're in an emergency and there are some that

you can use undiluted like lavender (but that's even been disputed).

I used lavender undiluted.

Hi Frank:

Used to mean that to me too! :)

All essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil before using them

topically (barring some emergencies but that is another topic). The percentage

to which they should be diluted safely depends on the essential oil you wish to

use. Safest dilution on the majority of oils is around 10% and the gentlest

oils can be diluted less. There are more volatile oils that should be diluted

even more. Then there are other oils that when combined with others a more

careful review of your final dilution percentage rate may be warranted. Still

other oils I wouldn't go near at all!!

For a great oil safety reference text - cites real references - I would

recommend Plant Aromatics by Martin Watt. www.av-at.com carries it.

I was not the type of person that went out and spent a small fortune on AT books

or any oils at all 'til I joined this group and spent a couple of years learning

by just 'listening.' The above book is the only safety reference I have ever

owned.

Ok, I give up.

What is " NEAT " ?

Applying an EO on neat to me means, do not put it on MESSY.

ROFLMAO! Very funny and so untrue... I put it on messy whether it's " neat "

(straight up, no water, no rocks, no oil, nothing, straight out of the

bottle onto your skin) or has been diluted with something... I sometimes

look like a walking grease fire waiting to happen. LOL!

Thanks for the giggle.

I can help with this one...it means without any carrier oil. I have read that

the only oils you should do this with is Lavender and Tea Tree. Although, I

have heard other schools of thought on this as applying neat can cause you to

become sensitized to that particular oil...Kathy in Ohio
