a rose is a rose-or not?

i'm sure that i'm not the only one that's getting the new seed and plant

catalogs

and dreaming of what the coming season will bring.

i am at a stand still of sorts. you see, i am not looking at a nice

neat 10x10 garden

plot. nor landscaping around the house. i am looking at 55 ac of land

to re-do

and bring back to a more native landscape. i am also looking for better

plant life

for my goats and horses.

thus the question about the rose. i often see wild roses along the

roadside. but

*and i know kathleen will cringe with the 'but' first*, i would like to

know what

kind of roses these are and would also like to know what type of rose has

the larges and bestest rose hips. i am not so concerned with the scent

of the rose

as i am of the rose hip it offers. is it possible to get these road

side roses with

large hips? *butch, behave!* the plan is to scatter these thru-out,

in smallish clumps.

am also looking at hazelnut bushes, chokecherry's, sumac and others,

along with native

grasses and flowers for now, tho, i'm checking on roses for the field.
