Guest guest
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts on Misty - my senior mare...unfortunately, the beating was worse than I could ever have dreamed - since she couldn't seem to eat the hay or grass - it would go up - and then come out - I took her to the vet - after several x-rays - the news was not good...her jaw had been broken at the mid point and there was what she called an open fracture - which is why it was still dripping blood from the wound underneath... the only option I had was to take her to the university of columbia (MO) equine center....and they could TRY to put a plate in her head and hope for the best - which would run between $3,000 and $5,000 or put her down...I was dumbfounded and heartbroken - but my dh and I could not spend that type of money and we could not watch her be in pain or slowly starve to death.....so I stayed with her in the stall for a while, cried and comforted her and bid her good bye.....She was a grand ole lady Blessings, Pam TLC Naturally - Pure Essential Oils & Soaps http://www.tlcnaturally.com E Web Express - Design & Hosting Service http://www.ewebexpress.com Message: 4 Sun, 05 Dec 2004 01:16:43 -0000 " sewingstorms " <sewingstorms Re: Help with Beat up Mare , " Pam " <pam@e...> wrote: > Yep..you read that right....my 22 year old sweet ole mare got > caught in a stall with my 8 yr old can't stand another in the > same room Pam: I am thinking a little bit into the future here for you. Your 22 yr old mare was tramatized. She is going to be skittish for sure. May I suggest you get a hold of a book on Tellington-Jones massage. This is a wonderful way to massage animals and specifically horses. I have a feeling she will not want to be touched for awhile and with the herbs and then this massage it would be a great benefit to her and draw her back to her normal self again. Good luck with her, I left my horse when he was 40 yrs old. Barbara

You have been wise and most kind to an animal that obviously loved you as she tried to stay for you. My heart knows your pain and so did she as you comforted her in her last hours with you. You will always remember her as that grand ol' lady she obviously was. Barbara
