Guest guest
Hi y'all, Not an area in which I have knowledge .. Chris, Dale, Markey, Jill and likely many others do have a good grasp of this. But .. can we not say that Small Pox has been eliminated in the USA as a result of a long term program of vaccination? And can we not read in history that Small Pox was as bigger killer during the Civil War, Indian Wars and such than was hostile fire? As for why some folks catch a disease and some don't .. as pointed out in Dale's post of the yonker who didn't catch Small Pox .. its for the same reason that some folks live to be 100 and some go under at a much younger age. Some folks are just deeper into the gene pool and have an immune system that rarely allows outside influence. Not my idea this, I know too little to express an opinion .. its something I read regarding studies of the Ebola Virus .. some folks do not die from it ... like 1 in 200 or so .. but then how many folks live to be 100? I don't think that all vaccinations fall into the same category as does Small Pox .. and as my yonkers are grown now I haven't given a lot of thought to vaccinations. But when I served in Central Command our area of operations was Africa and the Middle East .. and I was in one or more countries each month. My shot record(s) were long .. and but one time did I catch a bug .. in Somalia .. immune system kicked it without treatment, though there were times when it scared me. Some of my troops caught bad bugs that we had not planned for .. but none died. Somali folks did die. Does this mean that Americans have stronger immune systems than folks in poor countries? I think we do .. generally .. and for many reasons. Those who have been to Somalia know there are few civilians over 50 years old .. except for high ranking military officers and War Lords folks typically go under in their late 40s. Why is this? The UN Medical Team I worked with there said it was certainly related to life style, diet and education .. but then many of the colonels and majors and such lived like peasants .. but they had access to proper medical facilities ... so the UN folks concluded that it likely had more to do with prevention .. and vaccinations. I must believe them. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
