Hi Deb,

I think it depends on how sensitive a person is to these items. I

personally cannot use anything on my lips except balm that has been

infused with vanilla beans and mint EOs. Anything else causes me to

break out. I don't have an absolute answer on this, but can share my

personal experience. I have used vanilla oleoresin in a lip balm and

that broke my lips out as well.

Hi Deb

I've never heard of a chocolate absolute. Chocolate is mostly made up of milk

and sugar with some cocoa (if you're lucky!). So do you mean Cocoa absolute?

I've never heard of an absolute being made from cocoa either. Vanilla absolute

is available and that smells sort of like chocolate. Otherwise, as we've talked

about before, infuse a fresh vanilla pod in one or other of your balm

ingredients = vanilla 'flavour'.

As for safety, Butch posted a great description of absolutes very recently and

explained about the chemicals used to extract them. That may be why some people

react to them. The lips are very delicate skin so maybe an infusion as suggested

above would be gentler?

Kind regards

Jane
