Guest guest
Hi All - an Butch, One of the biggest causes of a slow down in computer performance is hidden Add/Spy ware that downloads to your computer when you visit a web page. Have a look at http://tinyurl.com/6682w for try/buy removal programs. Use one of the " free trials " to see what's hidden - it can be astounding These are very different to the antivirus programs which we all run. I use Pest Patrol (not highly rated in above but it works for me.) specific If you have " cookies " disabled on your computer will be exceptionally slow to load (as will ebay), try resetting to allow cookies and this may speed things up (you can always deleted them via Control Panel/Internet Settings/Delete Cookies - or one of the above programs.) To change your cookie settings open the web browser, and in " Internet Explorer " go to " tools " then - internet options/privacy/ - and change to " allow all " (move slider) or change to " medium " and see if that makes a difference before going to " All " . Faulty registry entries also slow you down like crazy - messing with the registry is a bit dodgy though, and not recommended if you - like me - don't know what your doing. So try a registry clean up tool like http://www.acelogix.com/ (thou if you do try it, make double sure to do a copy of your registry first - it tells you how - and use the " beginner/intermediate " setting (unless you DO know what you are doing, in which case you will be laughing at this post!! ). First time I ran it, it found 349 " invalid " items - I deleted them, and recovered so much speed I bought the program. Finally regular maintenance - defrag and scan disk - will work wonders after you have " cleaned up " the daily debris your computer picks up! Hope this helps some - but I'm no expert so please read and be careful about what you use - just like EO's - before you clean up your computer - and No - splashing TT, Oregano, Lemon and Red thyme around your computer will not protect you from computer viruses - tried that!.....)
