Dear friend,

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced plans to launch

an outrageous new study in which participating low income families will

have their children exposed to toxic pesticides over the course of two

years. For taking part in these studies, each family will receive $970,

a free video camera, a T-shirt, and a framed certificate of

appreciation. The study entitled CHEERS (Children's Environmental

Exposure Research Study) will look at how chemicals can be ingested,

inhaled or absorbed by children ranging from babies to 3 years old.

Please take a moment to follow this link and join tens of thousands of

citizens in petitioning the EPA to terminate this study prior to its

proposed launch in early 2005.

More information, related newspaper headlines and petition here:

Is that not the saddest thing. It is true. The ONLY reason it's on hold - that

they will admit to - is that the EPA is saying that some parents may

intentionally expose their kids to high or higher levels in order to qualify for

the research and money.

Some sick -------- we've got here.

I signed the petition and forwarded to some friends who I am sure

will pass it to their groups. This is sick, especially when you go

to the epa website and see how " kid friendly " it is.

More and more I've just been so annoyed with how our government

works. Why use household chemicals at all? I've been using

essential oils in my cleaning water and it works fine. For the

amount of money a person spends on Pinesol, Cleanser, toilet bowl

cleaner, floor cleaner, you can use essential oils for the same

price, but you will enjoy buckets of cleaning and go far longer

without having to replace it.

How do you use essential oils for cleaners, I would really be interested in

learning this, do you use certain ones for certain things?

Thanks

I simply use some Thyme and Lavender, sometimes Lemon in a spray

bottle of distilled water and wipe down my sink, countertops,

bathroom. I use the real strong scrubbers for the sink and the

toilet bowl. I drop Thyme and Lavender in my mop water and you can

use fragrance oils to dress it up a bit and your house will smell so

nice afterwards. I got the idea from hairdresser a long time ago,

believe it or not.

All I can say is I'm absolutely dumbfounded:-(

Maybe the " P " in EPA has been changed to mean something else. It certainly

doesn't stand for " protection " any more if this is the case:-(

I'll definitely forward this on.

Hi Dale and Chris

I just read this again and it maybe all in the wording and sequence of how

the study is conducted.

I think there's a good reason for studying the effects of pesticides but

maybe if it was done as a blind study ie monitor effects etc but not

specifically state what they are looking for, then do an audit AFTERWARDS of

the chemicals they're exposed to - but then that wouldn't give the ACC the

results they want:-(

I'm still in utter disbelief that this kind of stuff is happening AND

sanctioned. Apart from the Organic Consumers Association I wonder if any of

the health groups have grabbed hold of this?
