Guest guest
morning good folks, i recently received a recipe from a holistic animal list that looked interesting. there has been some talk on this list about wintergreen and peppermint, which this recipe has as a listed ingredient. i was wondering if there was a suitable alternative? here's the recipe: deep tissue repair oil 32 oz wintergreen oil 16 oz cold pressed organnic virgin olive oil 12 oz menthol crystals (must be peppermint or thyme) 2 c arnica flowers (dry) 1 c ginger root 1/2 c cayenne. for one thing, this calls for alot of wintergreen with the addtion of the peppermint, it seems like alot. since this is for deep tissue repair, it could possible be used for a long period of time. thus me asking for a suitable alternative. thanks in advance, deb c chillicothe, mo
Guest guest
Hi Deb This must be macerated wintergreen oil, right - it can't be the essential oil in that quantity! If you can't get it as a macerated oil, how about a small amount of the essential oil. And if you can't get that how about substituting Yellow Birch? Wintergreen's most active ingredient is methyl salycilate (sp?!) - as in aspirin. It's pain relieving and anti-inflammatory. If you can't get any of the above EOs, how about one of the Chamomiles? Not as powerful and physical in action but might help. I don't know anything about menthol crystals. Are they a natural extract? Interesting that it gives you the thyme vs peppermint option ... not an obvious swap in my opinion! Kind regards.
