Guest guest
Hi All, Just a quick note to make sure you tell everyone you know.... there are ebay-type scams running for more than just ebay and paypal! Just got one in my inbox and was pretty shocked. I knew it was a scam right away and called Washington Mutual (as I do not do *anything* online with them and I know they don't have my email). They said they are aware of these " fishing " scams and their corporate lawyers are working hard to find out who is doing it. The *whole* body of the letter was a clickable link. It was real, real short. First it said that they are doing a service upgrade... and they urge you to follow the link... then there is the clickable link (ha ha!) and then it states that it is " obligatory " for all bank members to follow the link and update their info. Looking closer --it truly is a fishing scam-- they didn't have my correct email address typed in. How does it still go to me? Hmmmm, this could be a very dangerous situation for some seniors who are not as jaded as the rested of the net community! My Mom & Dad are sharp as tacks, but when it comes to the internet --I can totally see them clicking that link! First time I've seen this sort of thing besides my paypal, so sorry if I'm stating old news. Andrea
Guest guest
Hi Andrea, It's always good to have reminders about scams like this. I get this kind of junk daily from senders claiming to be from CitiBank, and I have never had a CitiBank account! Lately, I've been getting a LOT of email from people wanting to sell me Rolex watches, too. Karen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karen M.
