Natural Childbirth

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this, but I have had a rough

1st trim, a trip stateside complete with horrific jet lag, and two

health scares. But all is well now and I slowly feel like I am coming

back to life - life with long naps that is. :)

I aspire to the most natural, intervention-free childbirth I can have,

and I hope that I can get it. But since I have to give bitrth

overseas in a military hospital, I know my choices /might/ be limited.

My plan is to have a good, detailed birth plan, and to have my

husband as edjucated as possible and along every step of the way, and

to tour and interview as much of the hospital/staff as I can before

hand. And also to be positive. I DO feel frustrated that I cannot

chose my hospital/Dr/birthcenter/doula/midwife etc. but fretting about

that makes it worse. planning and being flexible and proactive makes

me feel more in control

One thing I did want to comment on, was that I keep hearing this

commentfrom various well-wishers:

" Dont' be a hero! GO for the epidural. "

In my mind, NCB isn't about being a hero, it's about giving the baby,

my husband and myself the best, healthiest and most satisfying birth

experience possible.

If I find I really really need an epidural, or other intervention for

dire medical reasons, I'll make the choice with as much wisdom and as

little judgement as possible. Until that moment, I hope, plan and

wish for a lovely natural birth.

I also wanted to say that I really enjoyed these CB threads, and how

much knowledge and experience the whole group (esp Dale) has brought

to it.
