Hi Nessy,

> A hispanic lady told me to make a tea out of regular cooking oregano

> you find in your spice cabinet.

Linden, Oregano, Sage, Fennel, Pennyroyal, Anise, Chamomile, Clove,

Geranium, Jasmine, Melissa, Mint, Rose and Lavender Teas (and some

others) are quite common here in Turkey.

But I don't use the Oregano one would find on the grocery shelf ..

especially the brand McCormicks. We have MANY spice and herbs shops

here .. two within ten minutes walk of my home .. so we can buy any

spice we want loose .. by the gram or kilo.

Why not McCormicks Oregano? Because most of the Essential Oil will be

missing. Why missing? Americans are not used to strong Oregano .. they

only started using it after the GIs came back from WWII so its not a

cultural thing per se. McCormicks knows this .. they have a BIG factory

here in Turkey that purchases the Oregano remnants from distillation to

add to the pure thing .. they just dry it out and mix it with the pure

Oregano.

As far as making teas from Oregano .. we can make teas from any aromatic

plant .. and many folks do in this part of the world .. likely it is

many folks on this list do too.

> I have also made soup with cayenne and taken cayenne pepper capsules to

> clear my head.

Something else most Americans eat too little of. You can't find a

single restaurant in this part of the world that doesn't have a shaker

of red pepper on the table as a normal condiment. Little black pepper

used here .. mostly red.

Actually .. we eat pretty good here. I have a daily bowl of cucik ..

its yoghourt in water with little strips of cucumber in it. A little

bowl is presented to each diner prior to the meal. I like sliced garlic

in mine. And we drink a drink called ayran .. yoghourt in water ..

tastes a bit like buttermilk. Rhavda knows of what I speak cause its a

norm in the country of her origin too.

We eat lots of extra-virgin olive oil, cooked and raw garlic and onion,

fruits, veggies, whole grain bread and honey .. lots of honey.

Just this afternoon I went to the fruit stand beside my house and bought

25 kilos of Oranges .. that's 55 lbs. Cost me around $12.50 .. plus I

tipped the kid who hauled them to my house .. 35 cents .. which is maybe

what he makes in an hour and I used him for ten minutes. Gonna start

squeezing juice in the morning .. got a screw type professional juicer a

few years ago .. like it a lot. Gonna freeze it. We're in the cheap

citrus season now so gotta take advantage of it.

And I drink a lot of good Turkish Beer and Raki without regard to the

season. Heading off to the Pub now I am. ;-)

Likely it is that in the future we might find it more difficult to find

this and that Hydrosol from Turkey because a half dozen companies are

now bottling many of them and selling them locally in the supermarkets.

Folks drink ALL of them here .. ALL of them.

> Ginger root capsules by Solaray work wonders as well! As for use in

> children, I would consult an herbalist or read the bottle.

Good idea to consult a quack afore giving yonkers lots of supplemental

crap that is sold in the Health Food Stores too.

> hugs, nessy

And to y'all .. and keep smiling. :-)
