Guest guest
Okay, I'm spoiled now. A friend of mine gave me a bloom of her Ginger Shampoo plant. The bloom itself secretes a type of resin that you can use on your hair. I would put it on my hair when it was wet and my hair has never been so soft and my curls were actually in ringlets instead of the bouffant afro it normally does in our nice, humid Texas weather!! Unfortunately, I found that after three days, there wasn't any more resin to be squeezed out!! After doing research on the internet, this is also known as Awapui. I know they are grown commercially for the purpose of the cosmetic industry and would really like to know if I can find some for myself to use in my conditioner recipes. Anyone have any ideas? I have stopped short of contacting Marky at Garden of Wisdom. But, I do feel if anyone can locate it, it would be her. I have many links, including beautiful pictures of the flowers (they are truly amazing!) and nurseries to purchase the plants or rhizomes to plant yourself and various info on this amazing plant (of which the roots were used also with very healing benefits).... This is the closest I have come -you can order the flower heads in a bouquet that will last up to 4 weeks and use them as needed. Unfortunately, I think they are now out of season. http://www.a-tropical-flower.com/awapuhi.html I wish I had continued on this quest... perhaps someone else will now? This 'juice' is not just excellent for your hair, but also for your skin! Oh, and can we get a little shout out for the nice scent also? If anyone else knows where to purchase this, pure, to use as an ingredient, please let us know. Andrea
