Guest guest
Hi Sandi, Regularly bathing the affected areas with an infusion of Taheebo (Pau D'arco) is what I'd do! It is a VERY anti-fungal herb (bark actually). Also, I'd avoid eating sugary/starchy foods (esp. the refined variety) and avoid using body powders with cornstarch. Those are all things yeast like to feast on *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com avos3857 [avos3857] Hi all does anyone have any suggestions, eo's or hrbal, for a friend who is in her 2nd trimester and has a lot of yeast infections? really would appreciate any and all suggestions, i know that you are not treating or diagnosing this problem. thanking you all in advance sandi
Guest guest
Hi Sandi, When I was going to massage therapy school back in '96, the naturopathic doc told the class you can insert a clove of garlic to get rid of a yeast infection. I don't know why the info stuck in my brain, because I've been fortunate enough to not have to try it. But, it might be worth a shot? I pulled this info off a very quick google search of " garlic yeast infection " : http://www.bodyandfitness.com/Information/Womenhealth/infection.htm Garlic is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic and anti-protozoan. It has been found effective against opportunistic microbes like herpes virus and candida. Candida, the yeast which causes local or systemic yeast infections, loses the structure and integrity of its cell wall when exposed to garlic. http://chetday.com/yeastinfection.html Another home remedy that works for me is douching with apple cider vinegar. I only use Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. I usually have a jar with garlic in it sitting in the bathroom for other itches, and that works well too. About a tablespoon for a quart of water. Here's another yeast infection home remedy I have tried, which makes me laugh too hard. Just take a garlic clove and don't peel (I do though) and sort of smash it (not too hard it needs to stay together) and insert. Quick, run to bed and hope it stays in till you get in bed. Leave until morning. Don't worry about it staying up there and getting lost. Believe me it doesn't stay. Especially when you start laughing. If all else fails, I call my naturopath and he has suppositories that are made with tea tree oil and another with acidophilous. You're supposed to use one one night and the other the next night. I usually just use the tea tree oil one and that works the first time. Best of luck & I hope the rest of her pregnancy goes well. Guest guest
Sandi, the remedy that I use is neither eo nor hrbal, however, I've had the same problem, especially when I was pregger, oh, so many years ago ;-) Acidophilus powder capsules from the health food store helped me. It would take a few days of treatment to get relief, but if I kept up the regime, it would provide relief. I know how uncomfortable that condition can be. Here's something she can look forward to: when the hormones start dropping in the 'golden years', it gets better, lol! Guest guest
I am no prone to yeast infections, but I did start to feel one coming on during this pregnancy, and 2 nights of inserting a probiotic capsule internally did the trick for me. If she is having a huge problem, this may not be enough, but it is certainly worth a try! Guest guest
Hi, Sometimes the actual clove of garlic can cause major irritation to mucus membranes. You could try making an infusion with 2 or 3 cloves and distilled water and use it as a douche 2 times per day for 5 days or until 3 days after the symptoms are gone. The 3 problems with vaginal yeast infections are (1) most of the time we do not check the overgrowth of the yeast by using the topical remedies long enough. Then we do not change our diets (cut out sugar). The third problem is that so often we forget to clean our partners - they need to go on similar protocols! Otherwise, you have more of a chance for reinfection. j wrote: >When I was going to massage therapy school back in '96, the naturopathic doc told the class you can insert a clove of garlic to get rid of a yeast infection. Guest guest
Hi Sandi, I hope your friend is doing well. Hormonal fluctuations (pregnancy, perimenopause) can really bring on the yeast infections. Great suggestions for your friend thus far. I might also recommend taking probiotics. I've used them vaginally too, and they wipe out a yeast infection right away. Be aware that garlic will actually counteract the effect of bifidus and lactobacillus cultures, so she won't want to do both. Drinking Aloe Vera also helps to kill yeast. As a pregnant woman, several of the most effective herbal remedies are contraindicated. All the best, Michelle www.holisticmenopause.com
