Guest guest
Yup - wish it had been that simple for me. I arrived at our district only to learn that my voter registration filed with the DMV in August when I moved here never made it.....my now old 'new' neighbor who was assisting at the polling station looked like he was gonna cry for me he so did not want to turn me away. But by golly I was gonna vote today. Grabbed my ID and drove down to Town Hall and at least got my federal vote in. Couldn't vote on the local politicals. I saw Iron Jawed Angels much earlier this year. Fantastic movie. Highly recommend it for your teens to watch, especially your daughters/granddaughters/nieces. My 9yo watched it with me when I saw it. My kids came with me today as I went down to Town Hall and learned first hand how important the process is. The town clerk explained directions on how to fill in the paper ballot, explained and then had me double seal it in an envelope, had it timed and stamped...the whole nine yards. They asked so many questions like should you tell someone how you voted? Can you ask people how they voted? Why electoral votes and then they started skip counting to figure out how old they would be the first time they get to vote. My 9yo was so disappointed that her 7yo would get to vote at a younger age than she will get to. We explained to them all about the last election brouhaha and they easily understood why we should take that seriously. My daughter is now gearing up to stay up and watch the results be posted ongoing. She really understands what electoral votes are and how her parents' votes will be counted and forwarded on. It's been a big deal here today. Please, go out and vote. More importantly - teach your children about the privilege of voting and how it is still hard fought for in many other countries.
