Guest guest
Hey C-M, > Butch knows Dr. Pappas very well, I wish he would pipe in... > C-M OK. ;-) But this is not about Pappas .. its about Aluminum containers and the norms of the industry. Here's my two cents .. I have confidence in folks a lot smarter than me who have TESTED the chemical profiles of oils that were left in Spun Aluminum (which is different than the el cheapo stuff) after a year .. and said they found no significant differences than one expect from a year of oxidation .. which in most cases is insignificant. In my opinion, the answer is there is no detriment to Spun Aluminum .. but all Aluminum is not the same. A typical aluminum cooking pot would NOT be an efficient means of storage .. and we can expect a slight change of chemical profile in SOME essential oils .. one that comes to mind is Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) which will eat the friggin doors off the vaults at Fort Knox. Is Glass better than Aluminum. Dang betcha on that. But its not feasible when shipping (or storing) large volumes of oils. I ship kilos in Spun Aluminum .. but I will ship in 32 oz Amber glass IF the buyer wants to pay the extra shipping cost for the extra weight. Commercial distilleries don't " normally " use aluminum .. a very few do but its not the common metal used to produce stills. Some use stainless steel .. but most of the older stills are copper. I prefer copper for a number of reasons. When I buy in quantities as small as 5 kilos I often get oils in Spun Aluminum containers. Above that is stainless steel .. up to 100 kilo size drums (220 lbs) .. which is also a norm for the industry. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
Guest guest
Hello, While I appreciate aluminum's ability to block light from the essential oils contained within, I have received eos that have bits of aluminum in them several times from different suppliers. My preference now is overwhelmingly for amber glass. Now, in every instance, the supplier has insisted that is was impossible for this to occur, yet, I had a bottle full of essential oil with aluminum chips in it to prove that I was correct. Only in once case would the supplier replace the oil. The other insisted it was harmless and he would not budge! I really don't believe him. Guest guest
Ummm, EWWWWWWWW - And what a crappy response " Your oil is contaminated and has visible aluminum flakes in it - but that's ok oil " ??? What the heck???? I'd have gotten EVIL with them and told everyone I know about them too (and I know a lot of folks *lol* Sounds like their containers were cheap and surely weren't lacquer coated Like Butch said - not all aluminum is the same! What a way to ensure not getting repeat business ... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Eva [evaedwards] Hello, While I appreciate aluminum's ability to block light from the essential oils contained within, I have received eos that have bits of aluminum in them several times from different suppliers. Guest guest
Hmmmm, Butch ! I've been looking for a long time for something that would etch silver in a more natural way than what's being used... Maybe I will try lemon myrtle... C-M one that comes to mind is Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) which will eat the friggin doors off the vaults at Fort Knox.
Guest guest
Well, with that invitation, I will say loud and clear that it was ROB PAPPAS at Essential Oil University. I am sure you are not surprised. And I don't do business with him anymore, really. Only if I need rose wax because I swear I've looked high and low for two years and his is the only one that I like. And I don't buy that much rose wax. He's become a real a-hole lately, as his business has gotten bigger, he has become very cocky. Not a vendor I enjoy doing business with, that is for sure. I was very livid, believe me, but he would not budge, and I got pretty prickly. He did tell me that he has since stopped using those containers, so I presume this is not a problem currently. I purchased this oil last year and it was rosewood...nothing that is going to " eat through " much of anything... Guest guest
Hi Eva, I'm shocked & disappointed to hear this about Dr. Pappas. My experience w/him has always been positive, but I haven't had any problems. I guess it's easy to be nice when everything is going well. True colors come shining through when there's a problem... it's so disheartening to hear that he didn't make any effort to satisfy you. Anyway, w/the permission of our fab listmom Chris, I'd like to recommend that you join this group: SupplyReview/?yguid=159836398 It's run by another very fair & wonderful listmom & it's dedicated to giving consumers reliable suppliers to deal with. She's actually setting up polls right now so that people can document their positive & negative experiences w/specific suppliers. I'm sure there are others that would appreciate hearing about your dealings w/Dr. Rob.
