My kids just brought our dog Payton to me. One of his eyes looks a bit red and

the eye is watering. He is not acting as if anything is wrong - still his same

old goofy Lab puppy lovable self begging for any treats and playing like crazy.

Should I worry? What could it be?

Howdy,

He could have bumped it playing .. or it could be the start of pink eye *which

is contagous to humans* ... or it could be allergies. If it isnt better by

morning I would suggest you call your vet and ask him/her what they think.

Hope it gets better.

Thanks. They love him so much they notice EVERY THING he does or happens to

him. They did mention this afternoon that he had whacked into a corner of the

coffee table when they played ball with him. Yes, I let my kids play ball in

the house with the dog.....we're whacky that way.

If it is pink eye (which I never know pets could get) would anyone know how I

can treat it myself or even if I can?

If it is pinkeye it is not to be messed with as if it isnt treated correctly the

dog can loose his sight and even his eye... not to mention your kids could get

it.

Pink eye is best treated by a veterinarian.

No you are not crazy i let my kids play ball in the house to ... in fact i join

them LOL

thank you. I'm up late hoping there would be something I could do. Now I'll

just let that dog tell lies or whatever 'til tomorrow. Kidding...I know the

real saying. :)

Dale,

He could have gotten a hair in his eye, which will irritate it! When this

has happened with my dogs, I take them into the bathroom, hold their heads

(facing me) wet a washcloth, and slowly rub down from the top of the eye (not

the actual eyeball) and it usually helps.

Also, he could have been scratching and just gotten himself a tad of a nick!

Should be alright.

Watch it. If it festers more, gets redder, or starts having a drainage

other then tears, then call the vet.

thank you!

When I woke up this morning he was not on my bed where he usually is, crowding

me over. It was late in the morning, about 8:30am. He usually has me up by

7:00am. I didn't hear him anywhere not even under the bed which is another

place he likes to take refuge/rest/seek solitude. I jumped out of that bed and

raced to find him. I thought the worst for sure. Although how he could go from

a red, runny eye to giving up the ghost that fast I don't know. I just know

that I would cry if anything happened to him.

So, there he was in my son's room lying quite peacefully in his old crate and

staring at me like 'what's up mom?'.

His eye is perfectly clear. No redness in it at all. I am keeping an eye on

him (no pun intended) and so are the kids. They have given him about 30

'check-ups' today.

Thank you for caring each of you!
