Guest guest
Hi Alice, Wow, those hobo spiders sound nasty. Unfortunately, I can't find my reference for spiders right now, but possibly someone else on the list can point you in the direction of more info. I'm sure there's more than 1 EO that will deter them. This is a bit of info about mice & ants from " The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy " by Valerie Ann Worwood: Page 316 - " To discourage any rodent from entering your house, use spearmint or peppermint - fresh or dried plant, or essential oil to water and alcohol. Perfume is the strongest formulation and should comprise 15 to 30% essential oil. This placed strategically around the house and roof should discourage them from turning your residence into theirs " . Page 370 - " ...ants can be deterred by peppermint and, indeed, they hate it and will go to great lengths to avoid it. To clear a nest, just put 2 neat drops of peppermint oil directly onto the next and wait for the exodus. If ants are coming into your house, put 1 or 2 drops of peppermint oil on the threshold or wherever they enter. " You can also put peppermint plant near entries or chop the leaves & scatter them to create a barrier. (Same method for mice). We have got the WORST trouble with spiders invading here! And, yes, we have the hobo spider and that spider bites us and welts up and well, it isn't pretty. It is a relative of the Brown Recluse if that tells you anything about what their venom does. I have been trying to find something that will get rid of these guys for a LONG time. NOW, with the peppermint, does it have to be peppermint EO, or can it be like peppermint extract, peppermint FO, etc? Alice in SD
