Guest guest
Hi, there, I am wondering if anyone hear can help me with these two questions: I love the info that peppermint can repell spiders, however, I am on a longterm homeopathic treatment so I cannot be around peppermint as it will 'stop' my treatment. Is there anything else that will repell spiders from coming into our house? Next question: My husband gets sick every year with kind of a flu and it lasts 6 weeks to 2 months or so...one symptom that perseveres all this time is plugged up ears. The last time this happened I had him use an ear oil with some herbs in it (can't remember specifically the brand name), but, he thought it made it worse and didn't want to stick with it. He finally went to the doctor and took a drug that eventually gave his hearing back. I think the drug dried up the fluid in his ears (if that is what was going on). This time he does not want to take drugs (he is listening to me more...hehe)....I am wondering if anyone has any info that can help. What is causing him to be sick for 2 months with plugged ears all the time, etc? Thank you all, AiMeE

Your second question... I am going to just put something out there. I am not diagnosing, but I do suspect that with your husband's ears there may be some type of seasonal allergy or just an allergy that he has. If that is it, then you would be treating the symptom (the ears) and not the cause. I don't know how you feel about it, but a change in his eating/lifestyle could bring about results. When I used to have allergies, I was miserable. I worked in a dental office and had to constantly wear a mask. I had to blow my nose literally every 30 seconds. Lucky me, for the mask. It would have been too gross for patients to take! My ears were constantly plugged up with fluid. I would vomit from the amount of fluid that would reach my stomach... I " developed " allergies when I was about 26. Just " mysteriously " . Before that I was a very health-conscious person who ate *NO* processed foods. I shopped, even as a teenager, at health food stores and my parents had an acre of garden w/ fruit trees on another 1/2 acre... Well, as soon as I went back to eating healthy, after 'developing' these allergies, they were gone. They are still gone! I don't know what to suggest for his ears, I will leave that for others to help you with. But I do suggest looking for the " real " cause of these bouts he has --not that his situation has any relevance to mine. HTH! Guest guest
Hello, Sorry to hear about your hubby. Have you tried ear candling? I bought mine years ago & can't remember where I got them, but they're awesome. My hubby loves to get " candled " . You won't believe all the icky stuff that comes out! Basically, it's just a paraffin tube that " vacuums " out all the gunk. You place one end in your ear & you light the other end with a match. As it burns down, you can hear the stuff being sucked out because it creates a vacuum. Guest guest
When my ears get blocked like that, Fenugreek and Thyme herbal combo does the trick. I even have a problem when I fly -- that " brains ooze out your ears " headache from the pressure -- and the fenu-thyme works better for me than sudafed ever did. Guest guest
Horseapples! They're good for repelling spiders. In the south (in the country) the old folks would throw them under the house or porch, or even in the cellar to repell spiders. It's about the time of year for them to be ready. Guest guest
AiMeE, My husband also gets sick every year, starting around this time, and it can last off and on into January. His main problem isn't his ears, though they do plug up. His nose is what drives him crazy. He can't breathe through it, it runs constantly, and he can feel something high up inside, like a blockage or polyp but the dr couldn't find evidence of it...though I can't really say he tried very hard. I don't think he took my husband's misery too seriously. Prescription and OTC meds haven't helped him. In the past he wasn't interested in herbal remedies but I've been able to get him to take aromatic baths at times. (Our herb of the week, Rosemary, in fact!) They helped him sleep better. Luckily, he hasn't succumbed yet this year, perhaps because I've been using an aromalamp fairly regularly to dispel germs? My question, and it may be of help to AiMeE's husband, too: What is a good recipe for nose drops to help a problem of this nature? TIA, jaime

Guest guest
Hi! I take and recommend every adult take MSM (at least 1500mg) along with Ester-C (at least 50-75mg) every day. Helps relief respiratory distress as well as joint discomfort (is an anti-inflammatory). Should be used daily for maintenance because the body does not retain it - it is a natural form of sulfur, a mineral the body requires. It is not synthetic sulfa, which many people cannot tolerate. Guest guest
I wonder if nasal lavage would work? Try googling for nasal lavage...there are a few recipes out there. My dh uses pickling salt & baking soda. My ENT doc advised that I do nasal lavage every day, indefinitely. Worth a try?? HTH -- Have a wonderful day! Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions! I told my husband about MSM and he seems interested. Lavage is also a great idea. I'm deciding whether to consider it as a preventative measure or only if his problem shows up again. Either way, it gives us options we didn't realize before. jaime
