Guest guest
With PCOS I usually try to work in stages. I start with Qing Wei San and try to clear the heat and get them to lose some weight, then I tonify afterwards. It's often a pretty complex pattern. I have not seem good results unless clients can actually reduce their weight some. Regards, Angela Pfaffenberger, Ph.D. angelapfa www.InnerhealthSalem.com Phone: 503 364 3022 - Ariel Solomon, L.Ac. Guest guest
Most of my experience with PCOS has been fertility related. I tend to nourish and clear at the same time- with a little more focus on clearing at first and then a little more focus on nourishing later. I have actually had very good results with 100% pregnancy success rates. This current patient does not like the normal granules I prescribe, so I am trying to find something in pill form that will work. It is tough finding something in pill form that will work since PCOS is such a complicated picture- I also almost never use pills, so I don't really know what is out there. I will check out Qing Wei San. I was looking at Kan's Weight Manager or Spleen Support Formula (maybe too warm). Any thoughts? Guest guest
If she doesn't like the granules, you can tell her to get a pill making machine (about 20 bucks). Or make them for her yourself. It takes about 5-10 minutes to make 100 caps. Easy to use and you can still customize the formula. Only bad part is that folks end up taking alot of caps and there is no taste so you lose a portion of the effects. Guest guest
Agreed. For patient compliance and individualization of formulas I make in the vicinity of 50,000 capsules a year. Its nothing to sit down and make 4 to 8 formulas each day. And I find that less is more IF the formula is on target. Richard In a message dated 8/26/2009 10:36:30 P.M. Guest guest
From my experience there has not been such a problem. Besides how many is so-many? When formula is on target (in my experience) 2-3 capsules TID is more than enough. Sometimes even less. Richard In a message dated 8/27/2009 3:23:20 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Ariel, You could also tell them to suck it up, especially if you have a reputation that you can bring to bear. Granules are already incredibly convenient in terms of preparation. Gosh what do these people want?!?!?!?!?! Guest guest
Seriously! At times, I find patient compliance one of the most frustrating parts of my job. I like to be successful and help people. I am very successful when people follow the treatment plans I lay out for them. When people don't follow through, progress can get very slow, and sometimes they get frustrated at me and think that TCM doesn't work. I think some people only listen to the parts of my instructions they want to hear! Luckily, most of my patients are happy to follow my instructions, so I can't complain too much! I considered encapsulating the granules, I am just worried that so many gel or veggie caps will disrupt her digestion, compounding the phlegm-damp problem. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Ariel: I just tell them " It has been my experience that patients who take the herbs regularly at the recommended dosage, get better faster and see results more quickly. "  I make adjustments when I hear complaints, such as " take less at first, take with food, take twice instead of 3 times. "  In the end, if they are taking them to dose, results will come more quickly. I remind them of this if they tell me they haven't been taking them (or to dose) for some reason. It tends to be a motivator. If they still won't take them, then I am fixing the headache every two weeks - and that is their choice to be on that schedule. Anne Anne C.
