For anyone interested in obtaining hospital privileges and understanding the

professional, ethical, and legal environment that those privileges entail I

suggest Quality in Complementary & Alternative Medicine by David Kailin

LAc,MPH,PhD. http://tinyurl.com/nw5hwu. There is an entire chapter on how to

obtain such privileges and develop professional and cordial relationships to the

benefit of our profession and our patients.

Regards,

Michael

Like Michael I have found David Kailin's text immensely useful in terms of our

modern clinical setting. I consider it an essential text for the creation and

management of a clinic. It's a difficult read because it is so pertinent.

I hope more students and practitioners will invest in it.

Hi. I wanted to put my two cents in here. I never had any trouble with treating

a loved one or a friend in a hospital setting. A conversation with the physician

and nurses about what I was doing was usually enough. A primary caregiver, MD,

has more hesitation toward herbal therapy because, as I see it, it could cloud

the clinical picture. When being on call,  cold hired by patients or staff in a

hospital setting, all the permissions from the administration  is needed to

protect everyone. Kind of  like introducing yourself as available for hotel

visits. And if a good relationship sparks up with an MD who wants to take you on

rounds with them, then they can make it happen easily.
