granule herb dosing

wondering what folks are doing in terms of granule herb dosing?

raw herbs doses are usually 150g/day for an average sized person. at 5:1

extract, that would be 30g/day in gran, which seems way high to me.

i've been dosing 12g/d, and have recently increased to 16g/d in acute cases

or with heavier people. i've gotten satisfactory results in this dosing

range, which i suppose is the ultimate guideline.

curious what others are doing.

I routinely prescribe granule formulas in the 30 - 36 g/day range. The lowest

dose I give is 12 g/day.

Kath,

This is the reason that I decided not to use granules, but instead to

make my own concentrated herbal extracts in my office. I wanted to be

able to knowledgeably dose the same as I had been trained to do with

raw herbs, but in an easy to administer medium.

Evergreen recommends 6 gr for the average adult, which is what I go by, but

lately I have been wondering if it is enough. I do alot of Autism and

ADD/ADHD and in the Flaws psych book he recommends much larger doses and

specifically talks about increasing even more when you use granules. It

gets so expensive though when the herbs are preformulated granules that I

hate to recommend higher unless necessary when using those.

i'm guessing that evergreen is suggesting 6g because a lot of practitioners

who use their products don't have herbal training. so to CYA they are rec a

low dose.

have fun!

i've been pleased with results of 12g/day. i'll go lower, 9g, for small

formulas, maintenance, seniors & peds. i use up to 16g for acute cases and

obesity. based on what i've learned, there are those using 12-18g and even

18-30g, so i'm encouraged to go higher for acute cases, obesity and slow

responders.
