Guest guest
Dear Robert, That is a very good question. The difference between Daoist medicine and mainstream Chinese medicine is that the former has preserved the methods of self-cultivation, directly " perceiving " the properties and functions of medicinals through tasting, proper fasting (as part of self-cultivation), art of the bedchamber, internal elixir (nei dan) practices, etc., whereas the latter does not have any of those elements as part of their medical training. In addition, Daoist medicine has its own unique methods of channel diagnosis and pulse diagnosis. The Daoists believe that these elements are essential to producing high-level healers. Here are Dr. Chen's own words, translated into English: " TCM has inherited most of the final results of Daoist medical findings, but not the methods from which the results were derived. Guest guest
That, is a really good point. I am glad to see this again and again here, that a practitioner's 'self improvement', broadness of inner and outer experience, state of mind (presence, humility) can really make a difference between another doctor visit, and a revelation of strength for someone who comes for care. Is there a part of this represented in sham vs 'real' acupuncture trials? What constitutes 'genuine' acupuncture' ? This is for any school or mentor to decide, but the reality, to me, is that there are a lot of ways that do unite under this description. This is a good medicine, that can mix. People, especially researchers, want uniformity. The strength of tcm is it's flexibility, and personality. I am so bad with words. --- On Tue, 7/7/09, Mei Li <daomedicine wrote: Mei Li <daomedicine Re: question about difference between Daoist medicine and TCM, etc. " Robert Damone " <bdamone, " PCOM Alumni " <alumni Tuesday, July 7, 2009, 2:51 AM Dear Robert, That is a very good question.
