For the Western approach to " needle shock " , look up " vasovagal reaction " . As

for the TCM explaination, that's a good question. Never really thought about

it. " Collapse of yin " seems a little bit extreme. Perhaps something like

" heart qi loosened " or something like that.

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.

Thanks Al. As a side note, it was interesting that there is a

treatment protocol for the prodromal stages that was in a study,

http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/106/13/1684

that instructs to cross the legs and tense muscles for 30 seconds to

prevent the fainting (syncope). Anyone know how that procedure works?

Have you ever experienced acupuncture needle shock?

I remember the first time I did and it was in Beijing, China during

the summer of 2000.

I experienced this needle shock by watching the doctors in the

hospitals do acupuncture.

One stroke patient had over 45 needles in him, with 10 electrodes, and

a whole cloud of moxa

smoking around him. The first day I saw this patient he was wheeled

into the clinic in a wheel chair,

on the third day he was walking with a cane.

I also experienced needle shock last fall in Shanghai when I seen a

patient with cirrhosis have a very unique

treatment. The doctors surrounded his liver with about 20 acupuncture

needles, and the proceeded to drain the liver meridian by needling

conventional points like Liver 8, 5, 4, and 3. The treatment was

truly brilliant and something I have never seen before.

If you want to experience educational needle shock by observing senior

level doctors in a Chinese University Hospital, I urge you to attend

our fall tour to Hangzhou, China. You will even get 50 PDA's from the

NCCAOM for attending. To learn more about our tour click the link
