Guest guest
Hi All, Do any of you have any knowledge or experience regarding the transfer of Canadian doctoral program titles/credit into the US? I'm considering attending Pacific Rim College in Victoria BC. The info on the site is not very clear as to if the doctor status is legit in the US. They also call it a DrTCM. I've contacted the college, but no response yet. Just wondering if any Pacific Rim graduates out there have gone through the process or if any of you have any advice. Thank you, David Vitello
Guest guest
it varies from state to state in the US and from school to school. Some states allow only the use of doctoral degrees that were granted from " accredited " programs, such as WASC, and I am sure that Pacific Rim is not accedited in that way. ( I applied for a teaching position there a few years ago.) Some states are very laisse fair, and some states have special rules, eg, in New Mexico you can call yourself an OMD if you pass the state licensing exam, but you cannot cross the border into Colorado and continue using that title. In the same vein, the doctoral program at OCOM is not fully WASC accedited and but graduates can now use the title OMD in Oregon by virtue of some legal regulatiuon. Acceditation is a confusing issue. There is the acceditation by the counsil of acupuncture schools and colleges, and that is different from accrditation as a full graduate school through the council of regional universities, such as WASC. The latter being more demanding and valuable. Also note that OCOM for example has the full WASC acceditation for the masters degree but not for the doctoral program, meaning a school can be partitially accedited. I noticed that the school do not make much effort to clarify these issues to their applicants, however, I noticed when I talked to OCOm that they did know the details they just were not readily spelling them out.
