I'd really appreciate some advice on this case. The guy came in about 10 weeks

ago, about 40, overweight, had damp heat symptoms, his sperm count is low, he

has difficulties maintaining an erection, has little sexual interest, his wife

wants to conceive, he is unmotivated to lose any weight. I saw him for about 10

weeks, basically I dispersed the damp heat, his tongue cleared up, and his sperm

count has increased very dramatically, but the sperm mobility is unchanged, too

low, and his performance isn't improved; he achieves an erection but cannot

maintain it.. Does anyone have experience with this? I have basically mixed

temperature neutral " male tonics " such as yin yang huo, and sha yuan zi,, with

heat clearing herbs, but I don't know how to improve sperm mobility. His pulse

is slippery, his tongue a bit too red but not coated any more. He doesn't report

any fatigue, but seems to have a cranky disposition.

Is he on any medications that might affect an erection? Have you examined his

thighs for signs of tension and blockage as this will impact the blood flow

through the area?

Give him Shou Wu Chih (the non-alcoholic one), 3x per day, 1oz each time. Should

start seeing good results in 1 mo or less.

Angela,

I had a patient who had sperm motility of 35% and after 3 months of herbs his

motility was up to 80%. I don't recall his underlying condition, but i used Jane

Lyttleton's book, Treatment of Infertility with as a guide. She

has a chapter devoted to male infertility. I hope this helps.

Respectfully,

Thanks, Douglas that helps. I have relied on " Handbook of TCM Urology " and

actually not found it helpful with actual client scenarios; I think it's a

straight translation of a Chinese text, and it never fits my cases.
