Sorry about this folks, but quick suggestions would be useful. A patient of

mine was bitten by a bat yesterday, and has started the rabies injections. One

shot in the ball of the thumb, 6 shots in the gluts. She has to go back for

another shot tomorrow, then the next 2 Fridays.

She's generally a very outgoing woman, early 40s, a crusader for children.

Blood deficient, usually slippery pulses, can get you more info if needed.

Right now she feels like she can 'hardly talk' - very unlike her. Fuzzy headed,

no energy.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - I'm seeing her this afternoon.

Dear Karen:

There are 2 special points of Master Tong's called Fen Zhi Shang and Fen Zhi Xia

(DT.01 and DT.02). They are indicated for rabies, centipede, scorpian bite,

diabetes and almost any type of poisoning or detoxification. It is said that

one should bleed these points instead of needling. However, I needle these with

good results.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kath - the Dr Tan idea is very interesting. I've read the book, but had

trouble really understanding it - must take a course. So why these points?

It's been a while; are they the standard protocol, or do they have another

rationale?

Mater Tong's acupucture is " true " acupuncture in the sense that it isn't TCM

Herbalized acupuncture. It utilizes meridian diagnostics, holographic theory,

etc. Dr. Richard Tan's acupuncture is essentially Master Tong's, whose theory

Dr. Tan borrows heavily.

You may locate these points like this:

DT.01 is 1 cun longitudinally inferior to the acromion process of the shoulder,

just below the inferior edge of the superior lateral angle of the scapula.

According to Tong's theory, it is the reaction area of the endocrine glands.

Depending on the patient's size, you may needle 1-1.5 cun deep.

DT.02 is longitudinally 1.5 cun inferior and 5 fen medial to DT.01. Needle 5

fen to 1 cun deep.

You may cup over the needles.

Sincerely,

the 12 magic point theory is explained in the book. you do have to work

with it, take his seminars to really grasp is. basically it's balancing all

meridian, using the antique points, beginning with hesea and ending with

jing well. you alt yin and yg meridians, so that all 12 are used and yn/yg

is balanced. results are amazing.

there's lots of ways to arrange the points, i gave a basic protocol, but you

can get more sophisticated with it as you get familiar with the system. the

book helps to understand it.
