Guest guest
Beth, please be sure to ask the following questions: Is there an annual fee? a monthly fee? A daily fee called batch closing? A fixed fee every time you swipe? any fees in addition to the percentage? What is the charge for charge-back What if you want to close an account? Ask to see the written contact that discloses all fees. Also ask what cards you can accept. I take credit cards and have struggled with a succession of companies through the years, I found that the REAL costs are higher than you first think, about 5%. Guest guest
also, the 1.79% they are quoting is the lowest possible rate. reward cards get processed at a higher rate, up to 4.75%. most of the cards will be processed at the higher rate. the low rate is a teaser and only a few tranactions/mo, if any will be processed at that rate. Guest guest
it's hard to do biz w/o a credit card processor these days. Most of my patients pay that way. Over a year ago I left an office where I used a swipe machine and now I simply call in each card to my bank (Compass Bank) and do it over my cel phone (which is my office line as well). I pay a bit higher % but I don't have a machine to pay for. When I have more volume I will switch to paying for a processor but for now with my simple but steady practice it is what works. It's hard to trust some of these credit cos. I've heard nightmare stories so I feel it's best to stick with those you know (your bank, costco, referred cos.)
