Looking for alternative to expensive software-- manage patient addresses

Please advise. 

 

Instead of purchasing expensive software i am looking for an inexpensive

alternative to manage patient addresses for mailings (i.e. postcards).  I am

NOT looking for a management system to track all patient information (i.e. 

history, insurance info, etc....).   I am looking for something simple and

easy...no frills.  I tried to see if i could do something with Excel, Word,

Outlook, and Address Book but it wasn't happening.   I figured someone from this

group would have good advice. 

 

What i need it to do is:  1) input and update new patient addresses   2) convert

it to labels for print.

you can do this in Excel, I'm pretty sure. but I didn't do it

myself, someone did it for me. you have to read the help manuals.....

actually excel does work for that kind of database, and then you use Word's mail

merge to make the labels. you need to set up a field in excel for each piece of

info (ex 1-first name 2 last name 3 address 4 city 5 state 6 zip).

 

it's been a while since I did mail merge but I used this system all the time at

another job prior to practicing medicine.

another thought on ways to do inexpensive advertising - you might try

something like Constant Contact if you want to send " postcards " or

informational newsletters/flyers to your patient list via e-mail. CC

is $15 month for 500 names or less, or $30 month for more than 500

names. There are some nice features to it, ie. they get rid of

duplicate names and cull out of date e-mail addressees for you. You

can also track what happens to the e-mail you send - do they open it,

delete it without reading, etc. CC has templates you can use to

design with. If found it difficult at first to design on their

templates, but finally got a flyer out to my patient list detailing

new prices and services. CC gives you a free 2-month trial to see if

you like it.

 

By comparison, I sent a hard-copy postcard to 1000 people and I

figure that cost me about $700 for printing, mailing and to purchase

a mailing list. I might want to do that every few years, but

certainly not on a regular basis.

I like the Palm Desktop (

http://download.cnet.com/Palm-Desktop/3000-2094_4-10020951.html ) . You can

print the address book and select the File->Page Setup and configure output

for labels.
