Guest guest
Re Salty Taste Hi Hugo I have a long term patient who gets this problem when he is run down. The two pieces of advice I can give are - firstly one which is obvious in that she must have an imbalance in Water with taste being salty. I treat both with TCM and 5 Element acupuncture styles, and from a 5 Element point of view my patient is a Water constitutional type (CF), blue around the eyes, groan in voice etc. In fact I find myself frequently treating him for Kidney Yang deficiency in TCM terms. Your patient's tongue however suggests that damp heat in the kidney could be given consideration. Secondly something that may be a surprise. - has your Px had her thyroid function checked? My is patient is always on the edge with thyroid function and when there is a suspicion that he may be leaning towards abnormal blood test results he gets a salty taste in his mouth. He has not been prescribed medication as he is always on the edge and his GP now knows that acupuncture treatment appears to keeps him check. In the case of my patient when his thyroid function is verging towards low I always tonify points specifically for thyroid on St..19 and Kid 3, which so far has always balanced things out when he returns to his GP for more tests. In your case however I would of course only recommend this treatment if proper blood tests confirm problems with thyroid function, or if the tests suggest she is borderline. No ability to taste anything except spicy - when she puts salt in her mouth she can't taste it. Happened back in July, she was eating some chocolate cake and she realised it didn't taste right. Background: Low back pain / 5 years. Soreness, stiffness. Goes to sleep at midnight. Sleeps with feetout from under covers, comfortable otherwise, doesn't wake. If sleeps during day (fairly regular habit of taking a nap) will wake up feeling cold. " Terrible morning person " , want to be left alone with her coffee (1/day) and cigarettes. Doesn't eat anything for breakfast. Feels that cold and damp weather is " horrid " . She says that she worries a lot. Has had small blue spider veins at both K3 area, left and right, since at least her teens. Tongue Light pink, slightly pale tongue body Slightly yellow coating to rear, med to thin thickness Dryish at centre, some extra moistness at edges Slight scalloping.
