Guest guest
Hi gang. I have a patient who totally baffled me yesterday. I've been treating her for a year for shen disharmony, gb dh, liver wind (primarily). Over the past year it has become increasingly obvious to me she is an alcoholic who hides it very well. through the recent grapevine I learned her husband had found a cup of vodka in her car, her friends don't think she can give up alcohol, and she often comes to me around 1pm with a faint scent of acohol (which at first I ignored but repetition really alerted me). She admits to 1-2 glasses of wine/night (probably more than that, I'm thinking). Around 10-11AM daily she gets hot flush, vomits a little bile, has diarrhea, then is done for the day. It used to be daily but now about 1x/week due to treatment. increasingly her eyes are yellow, and western tests revealed high liver enzymes. She is very nervous, shakes a lot when upset, used to have bad anxiety attacks and could not sleep but all is under control w/treatment. Generally her tongue is red, greasy yellow coating, red spots. Pulse is generally wiry, rapid, slippery. but yesterday she showed up (she comes weekly) and her yellow coating was completely gone, almost a clean coat, except as of the last two treatments I've noticed a huge peeled strip on the left side of her tongue. Her pulses are a lot weaker now. My thoughts are something along the lines yin xu, but why just the left? perhaps the pancreas (not a chinese dx I know). and how so quickly from one year to the next treatment? I've been researching intervention options. thanks for your time. sami
Guest guest
Hi Sami, I have a patient whose coat completely disappears on one side of his tongue from time to time - due to oral thrush/candida. It also gets very tender looking when this happens, and he describes it as sore. He treats it with oral antifungals. Andrea Beth Traditional Oriental Medicine Happy Hours in the CALM Center 1770 E.
