Hello,

I have a question about facial acupuncture.

What type of needles are used?

I know that Seirin needles are used is it better to get one cun or 1/2 cun

and what thickness of needles? Are 40 and 42 used? like red and light green

colors?

I also uses Seirin intradermals before theu have 3 different sizes any

suggestions which size is good would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Julia

Yulia,

I do not practice facial/cosmetic acupuncture, but when I was a student I

learned about it.  My teacher used and recommended the blue seirins, which I

thought were a bit thick for that use.  He inserted them very superficially,

into wrinkles.

Yuliya.......

Although trained in facial acupuncture, I do not currently practice it. I just

checked my course materials supplies and will list below:

Seirin intradermals size: large (1x6)

Seirin red 1 " with tubes; length 30mm, gauge 1

Seirin blue 1 " w/tubes; length 30mm, gauge 3

Seirin blue ear needles without tubes

Seirin ivory 1 " w/tubes; length 30mm, gauge 2

My teacher incorporates body points along with the facial treatment. At no time

did she ever mention using 1.5 " needles, although I suspect that some of us

would prefer those for body points. As I recall, the ivory Seirins were most

often used for facial acupuncture on men due to their generally thicker skin.

If you have a strong interest in this area, I can tell you that I immensely

enjoyed studying with Mary Elizabeth Wakefield. Hope this helps!:

I almost always use 1/2 reds on the face.  1 inch greens if person is very

sensitive.  I don't do cosmetic work either, but went to one class.  I don't

think Elizabeth Wakefield would have used blue serins on the face.  She was

also doing body points.

I use Unico needles from Kenshin Trading.

I use

#00(0.12) x 10 mm

but They have

#01(0.14) x 10 mm

#02(0.16) x 10 mm

also.

They are from Japan as well as Seirin and no oil or silicon on the tip.

(I don't know if Seirin has something on the tip, though. Does someone know? I

like Unico better because they are easier to handle)
