Dry needling

Dear Group,

I would like to speak to the dry needling issue since I'm both a physical

therapist assistant and an acupuncturist. The point (no pun intended) of dry

needling is to stimulate the motor end plate of the nerve-muscle junction,

causing an immediate strong twitch. The natural response of a muscle after

contracting is to relax, so the stimulated muscle will relax after the twitch.

It is used to treat trigger points.

The PT that I know who is using this method does not represent himself as an

acupuncturist and explains the dry needling method to his patients. The

seminar he took was based on Janet Travel's trigger points with additional

classes on needling techniques.
