Scope of practice...blood work

Hi all,

Do you know what the laws and procedures are to do blood testing?

We can bleed points with lancets, do bleeding cupping,

but can we extract blood and send it to labs?

Can only the patient extract their own blood, unless we have a licensure for

that?

Which labs are you using for your urine/saliva/blood work?

Thanks,

K

Do not rely upon the individual, but rely upon the teaching.

As far as teachings go, do not rely upon the words alone, but rely upon the

meaning that underlies them.

Regarding the meaning, do not rely upon the provisional meaning alone, but

rely upon the definitive meaning.

And regarding the definitive meaning, do not rely upon ordinary

consciousness, but rely upon wisdom awareness.

John,

In California, LAc's can order blood work and other labs/diagnostic

procedures. This varies from state to state - check with your acupx

board/scope of practice.

In all states, you need to have at least a phlebotomist license (or be IV

certified as a nurse, np, pa, etc.) in order to draw blood.

I sent out a query awhile back to another list wondering if there were any

LAc/Phlebotomists out there operating under their dual scopes of

practices...I didn't get any responses...I wonder if there are any

LAc/Phlebotomists on this list??

I send patients to either labcorp or quest for basic labs/blood work (these

are two of the largest labs in the US and have many draw stations available

for sending patients). I use a variety of other specialized labs for func

med diagnostics - diagnos-tech, meridian valley, genova, metabolic

solutions, doctors data...just to name a few off the top - depends on what

you're looking to rule out/in. You need to get yourself signed-up for each

lab and get their requisition forms. Professional Co-op is a great company

to use to get Labcorp lab req's and contracted lower lab fees for patients.
