Guest guest
Dear Group, I've been in practice for 2 years now and a few of my patients are interested in bringing their children for treatment. I'm interested in reading about TCM and adolescents/'tweens (ages 9'ish to early teens). I have a book on TCM and pediatrics by Flaws, which seems to focus on infants/toddlers/youngsters. If there is such a resource, I'd appreciate the information. Thanks in advance, Jean Dombroski, L.Ac, upstate ny
Guest guest
Jean, I don't treat a lot of kids in this age range, but when I do: I use thinner needles (usually serin #1) Use less points (4-6 needles total) Leave the needles in for only 15-30 minutes Diagnose and chose points as with an adult, with the emphasis usually on SP/ST disorders However, by age 13 or so (depending on how physically developed they are), I think they can pretty much be treated as adults with a little bit of a gentle touch. My two cents. Guest guest
Thank you Emily. I've also read what you suggest below as general treatment guidelines. I'm looking for " normal " pulse and tongue for that age range as well. Issues of these kids; abd pain, headache, asthma, " irritability " and the like. Thanks again, Jean > Jean, > > I don't treat a lot of kids in this age range, but when I do: > I use thinner needles (usually serin #1) > Use less points (4-6 needles total) > Leave the needles in for only 15-30 minutes > Diagnose and chose points as with an adult, with the emphasis usually on SP/ST disorders > > However, by age 13 or so (depending on how physically developed they are), I think they can pretty much be treated as adults with a little bit of a gentle touch. > > My two cents. > Emily
